Terence Crawford’s Imaginary Hunt

Terence Crawford posted a cryptic Instagram message today saying he’s “now on the hunt.” The 36-year-old Crawford has been on a victory lap, coasting on that win over Errol Spence

Crawford has been celebrating that victory like he’d climbed Mount Everest. I hate to break this to the Omaha, Nebraska native, but you can’t build a legacy on one semi-decent win over a weight-drained fighter and then take a year-long victory lap to prolong the glory.

Fans See Right Through the Act

No one believes Crawford wants any part of Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Fans on social media immediately replied that he’s NOT on the hunt for the young phenom, Boots, who just signed with Matchroom Boxing.

I don’t see Crawford wanting to risk his hide against Boots and potentially getting exposed in a one-sided loss. Fans see through this “hunt” charade and see it as plain old-fashioned fear of Boots Ennis.

Ennis’ new promoter, Eddie Hearn, said he wants Crawford and Errol Spence for him because he sees Boots beating them.

The talented 26-year-old Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) is the prey that many see the old lion Crawford avoiding, not wanting to pass the torch as part of the sport’s custom.

Price Tag from Another Dimension

It’s believed that Crawford’s high purse requirements, rumored to be in the eight figures between $10-15 million per fight, which are out of this galaxy, are going to limit his options to just one person – Canelo Alvarez, who has already said in perfect English that he’s NOT interested. It’s like Crawford wants to be paid like he’s headlining on Mars.

Crawford’s options are disappearing fast because he’s already being forgotten due to his inactivity.  When you fight only once a year and you’re not young, fans won’t be thinking about you.

So, unless Crawford comes down from his high horse and drops that price to a more manageable $2 million, he’s going to be heading into retirement tortured by regret.

The Fading Crawford Era

“This lion is now on the hunt….. #CrawfordEra,” Terence Crawford said on Instagram today.

Fans believe that Crawford is hoping that former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo will come out of his hibernation mode to fight him. I don’t see him doing that.
