Ryan Garcia roasted Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on social media in reaction to him losing his WBA light welterweight title to Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz by an eighth-round TKO last Saturday night.
Garcia says Rolly’s chin is “toast” at this point in his career, and he can no longer take a punch. First, it was the sixth-round knockout loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in 2022, and then a video was leaked of Rolly being knocked out by a sparring partner.
Now, Rolly is getting knocked out by a much smaller 5’4″ Pitbull, Cruz, who came up from lightweight to challenge him. Ryan thinks that Rolly is finished as a fighter because his chin has been compromised, and he can’t take a punch anymore.
The really sad part is that Rolly walked away from negotiations to fight Ryan, and he could have made so much more money fighting him in the main event instead of defending against Pitbull Cruz on the undercard of Tim Tszyu vs. Sebastian Fundora.
That was the bone-headed move of the year by Rolly, and he should be angry with whoever talked him into walking away from the Ryan clash to take a smaller money fight against Pitbull.
Romero’s Chin Questioned
“He’s not experienced, and now his chin is toast, his body can’t take a shot. Those weren’t even hard shots,” said Ryan Garcia on social media, discussing Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero’s loss to Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last Saturday night. “The dude just can’t take a punch. It’s the truth.”
Rolly was never a good fighter to begin with. The only reason he’s gotten this far is careful maneuvering by his promoters at Mayweather Promotions, and the controversial stoppage win over Ismael Barroso last May in a fight that he was losing.
“When I was making my comeback fight, I was pressing that fight [against Rolly] hard, and he didn’t want it after that year and a half layoff,” said Ryan about his attempts in the past to try and line up a fight against Rolly. “He didn’t want it. He still didn’t want it after I beat Tagoe, and he didn’t want it after I beat Fortuna.
“Then I called him again out so many times. It was even ordered by the WBC for us to fight, and obviously, they went around it. It doesn’t really matter. All that mandatory.
PBC Politics Cited
“I would love for that to happen, but it don’t happen, and I’ll tell you why,” said Ryan when told that he should fight WBA light welterweight champion Pitbull Cruz next after he “sleeps” Haney on April 20th.
Pitbull did mention after his win last Saturday that he’d like to fight Ryan, but it might be pointless if his management at PBC isn’t interested in making that fight.
Cruz also said he wants to fight IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matias, who is with Matchroom Boxing, and WBO champ Teofimo Lopez, who Top Rank promotes. If PBC is going to give Pitbull the greenlight to fight one of them, it makes sense that they’d agree to a fight with Ryan as well.
“Politics. PBC will not let nobody fight me unless I be fighting with them. I’m just being real with you. Unless it’s a big fight like with Tank, but it ain’t going to happen. They won’t want to make that fight happen. Trust me,” said Ryan.
