Haney vs. Garcia: Are Ticket Prices + PPV a Recipe for Disaster?

By Chris Williams - 04/04/2024 - Comments

The high price of tickets at the Barclays Center and the $80 PPV cost could wreck the financial success of the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia event on April 20th on DAZN in Brooklyn, New York.  The promoters have misjudged the public by charging what they thought the market would bear.

Fans are saying $80 is way too high and screaming bloody murder about the ticket prices at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Those empty seats aren’t going to sell themselves, and we could have a drastic ticket giveaway.

Fans Are Fuming: Just Look at These Tweets

  • “80 bucks to watch this? No thanks, I’ll find a stream.”
  • “Barclays Center is charging my left kidney for those tickets.”
  • “This ain’t Mayweather vs Pacquiao, guys, get a grip on reality!”

It appears that the promoters have made a colossal blunder by overcharging, and the negative reaction from fans has made it clear.

The organizers of the event might have overestimated the amount of interest from the boxing public for the clash between WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs), considering the fans’ reaction has been overwhelmingly negative.

Time to Panic!

There are only 16 days remaining. Things are looking pretty bleak right about now, making it necessary for the promoters to do something, anything, to get the tickets to start selling.

That could mean slashing the process. If you’re the captain of this sinking ship for this promotion, you have to start bailing water because the Haney-Garcia vessel is sinking fast.

Papa Haney: Master of Hypocrisy?

“We give the fans an opportunity to come in. That’s that old bull s*** business model that you’re going to charge the fans for some bull s*** fights, and that you the ‘Face of Boxing’ because you keep you keep shoving it down their throat, man,” said Bill Haney to the media, trashing Gervonta Davis for charging $80+ for subpar PPV fights.

“The Mayweather era is over with. This is the Devin Haney era. That Mayweather s*** is over with. Do you hear me? Over with,” said Bill.

This is an example of Bill Haney being a hypocrite. He slammed Gervonta Davis for charging a high process fee for his lackluster PPV events and then did the exact same thing with Devin’s clash against Ryan Garcia on DAZN pay-per-view on April 20th.
