Former superstar Adrien Broner is putting what’s left of his huge fortune on the massive underdog Ryan Garcia to win by knockout over Devin Haney tonight in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Broner says he would bet a million on Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) to win, but with his bankroll down to a whopping $13, he’s putting it on Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) to triple his money.
Garcia’s Rise: Potential Payday for Broner, Boxing Upset
It’s hard to tell if the former four-division Broner actually believes Ryan can win or if this is just flat-out desperation for the 33-year-old AB. A knockout victory for Garcia would see him on top of the sport, putting on a level with the top earners in the U.S.
“My brother says he got a million dollars that Devin wins this fight tonight. If I had my money like I did back in the day, I’d probably put my money with him, too. So, it would be two million,” said Adrien Broner on social media, talking about tonight’s fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.
“Taken that I only got thirteen dollars, I like Ryan for the knockout. I like my odds. I got to triple this s*** up. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but I got to make me some money,” said Broner.
Ryan has more power than anyone Haney, 25, has fought before, but he doesn’t have the same skills or mobility. To get to Haney to land, Ryan will need a good set of wheels to chase him when pulls back as he always does.
Prediction: Haney’s Skillset Likely to Prevail
In my expert opinion, Ryan won’t be able to KO Haney tonight. There are fighters who would likely obliterate Haney and expose him, like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, but Ryan doesn’t have that kind of ability to dominate. Ryan’s power is similar to Boots and he has better hand speed, but he doesn’t have the skills.
Ryan has had a lot of time to study the tactics that Haney uses, so he should be ready for his mobility and clinching that often does. Haney will leave himself open to getting hit by Ryan’s powerful left hook when he moves to tie him up.
We saw George Kambosos Jr. connect with some nice left hooks when Haney was diving in to hold.
