Devin Haney Blasts Ryan Garcia, Wants to Get Him Out of Boxing

Devin Haney says he wants to end Ryan Garcia on April 20th to get him out of the sport. WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) feels that Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) isn’t taking the sport seriously and that he’s a bad role model for the kids who follow him.

What especially has the 25-year-old Haney peeved is Ryan not lifting a finger to help promote their headliner on DAZN PPV at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Only a fraction of the tickets for the fight have been purchased, and PPV sales could be just as poor. It’s important for Haney that Ryan lend a hand in promoting the event because he and his dad, Bill Haney, are incapable of doing the work themselves.

Bill switches topics too often during interviews and fails to stay on message when promoting his son’s fight. He seems more interested in obsessing about Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson than helping to promote Devin’s fight with Ryan, which is too bad because he’s failing to see the big picture. Devin isn’t fighting either of those guys, and probably never will.

In Haney’s case, he’s incapable of singlehandedly promoting a fight that the boxing world views as a mismatch between him and a distracted, disengaged Ryan. Haney is the one who wanted this fight, and he clearly made a mistake. If he had chosen Subriel Matias or Teofimo Lopez, he wouldn’t have this problem.

The way Ryan is acting, he seems to know he has no chance to win, so he’s not interested in discussing the fight because it’s not a pleasant topic for him, like talking about going to the dentist or having surgery.

Haney Questions Garcia’s Commitment

“It’s motivating me even more to end him and get him out of boxing because he’s not taking the sport seriously like he should. He’s not being a good role model for the people that look up to him,” said Devin Haney to the media about wanting to end Ryan Garcia’s career on April 20th.

Haney won’t end Ryan Garcia’s career because he’s making too much money due to his huge social media presence, so he’ll keep fighting no matter how many losses he absorbs.

“He’s on this platform, but he’s not making the best of it. He’s doing everything else but promoting the fight and doing. I’m just super motivated and in great shape.

Can Haney Deliver a Knockout Blow?

“In my previous fight, it was my first fight at 140, and I didn’t know how to make weight properly. But for this fight, I feel great, and I’m better for it,” said Haney.
