Ryan Garcia Surprised as Rolly Romero Opts for Pitbull Cruz Fight on March 30 on Amazon Prime PPV

Ryan Garcia reacted in surprise on social media today to the news of WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ defending his title against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on March 30th on Amazon Prime PPV in Las Vegas.

Popular social media icon Ryan Garcia thought he and Rolly would fight next, but he was wrong. Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) and his promoters had other ideas, choosing lightweight contender Pitbull Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) for his first and perhaps the last defense of his WBA 140-lb belt on March 30th.

It’s not the end of the world for 25-year-old Ryan, as he’s still popular on Instagram with his 11 million followers, and if he’s courageous, he can fight one of these killers to show the boxing world that he’s not a fake social media fighter with a build-up, plastic record:

  • Ismael Barroso
  • Subriel Matias: IBF light welterweight champion
  • Jose Ramirez: Former WBC & WBO 140-lb champ
  • Arnold Barboza Jr.
  • Gary Antuanne Russell
  • Richardson Hitchins
  • Shakur Stevenson

Ryan Garcia Reacts to the News

“Look, I was informed the deal was finalized, and it would be announced in the coming days. Obviously, that was a lie,” said Ryan Garcia on X, reacting to the news of Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero fighting Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on March 30th instead of against him.

“My patience has been tested the last few weeks. I’m trying my best to be as honest and real as I can,” Ryan Garcia said.

“I’ll be looking forward to announcing my next fight. I’m not going to say anything until it’s actually signed and delivered I still look forward to putting on a big PPV for DAZN Boxing.”

Garcia’s Next Move

Perhaps it’s a good thing that Ryan isn’t getting the Rolly fight because the backlash would have been severe, with boxing fans blasting Kingry, seeing this match as confirmation that he’s afraid to fight the real champions at 140.

Rolly is viewed as the weakest link among the belt-holders at light welterweight and totally underserving of being a world champion after his disturbing victory over the 40-year-old Ismael Barroso last year in May.

If Ryan wants to be taken seriously by fans, he needs to show some bravery and take on the killer of the division, IBF 140-lb champion Subriel Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) next, and give it his best shot.

Even if Matias destroys Ryan, he’ll look brave and shake his image of being a fake fighter.
