Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney Showdown on the Horizon? Hearn Pushes for April Clash

Eddie Hearn says he’s spoken to Ryan Garcia, pressing upon him the need to take the fight with Devin Haney on April 20th, and he feels confident that he’ll get the deal done between the two stars.

Hearn states that it’s the best option for the 25-year-old Golden Boy-promoted Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) because he’s NOT going to get a lucrative rematch with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and he won’t be able to negotiate a match against Teofimo Lopez because he’s with the “Ferries,” meaning he’s too tricky to negotiate with.

Hearn’s Pitch to Garcia

“I spoke to Ryan Garcia briefly last night just to message, and I said, ‘The timing is good because I’m seeing Devin [Haney] and Bill in Vegas all next week, and that’s the fight to make. You want a big PPV on April 20th. Tell me the other options out there,'” said Eddie Hearn to Fight Hub TV about his desire to put a fight together between WBC light welterweight champion Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia for April 20th in Las Vegas.

“‘You’re not going to fight no Tank rematch. Teofimo is away with the ferries,'” Hearn continued about what he told Ryan about his options, or lack thereof, for his next fight on April 20th.

As Hearn points out, Ryan’s only viable option for a pay-per-view fight on April 20th is to fight WBC light welterweight champion Haney. Ryan can’t fight WBA 140-lb champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero because he’s already scheduled to face Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on March 30th.

Confidence in Closing the Deal

“Imagine trying to do a deal with Teofimo. Anyway, who else is out there for Ryan? That’s the fight, Devin Haney against Ryan Garcia, and we can make it next week. I believe so,” said Hearn about his ability to make the Haney vs. Garcia fight ‘quickly.'”

Hearn is optimistic about putting together a deal between Ryan and Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), and he says he’ll be meeting with Bill Haney & Devin next week. Still, it will be tricky for Hearn to hammer out a deal because both fighters are prima donnas.

Risky Business, Big Rewards

“It’s a risky fight for both, but it’s what you want, isn’t it? That’s what makes it a great fight. It’s a big fight. I think if Ryan feels the deal is right, he’ll take the fight. I know Devin will take the fight,” said Hearn.
