Ryan Garcia and Romero Scramble for Cruz, Leaving Questions Unanswered

Ryan Garcia and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero are both trying to sign to fight lightweight contender Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz for their next fights at 140.

It’s very confusing why Ryan & Rolly are trying to drag Cruz up from 135 to use as an opponent for their next fights.

Fans interpret this move by the two fighters as lacking the self-confidence to fight the killers from the 140-lb division. Hence, they’re scouring the lightweight division, looking for beatable opposition to bring up to 140.

If Ryan gets his way to sign Pitbull Cruz as his next opponent, it would be the second lightweight that he’s brought up to 140 to fight.

Ryan moved up to 140 last December, but instead of fighting a contender from that weight class, he selected fringe lightweight contender Oscar Duarte as his opponent. It was thought that Ryan’s next fight would be his first against a 140-pounder, but here he is, trying to get another 135-pounder.

Rolly’s Confident Claim

WBA light welterweight champion Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) posted on X, saying he’ll fight Pitbull Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) on Amazon Prime, sounding confident the fight will happen.

Ryan posted on social media, offering Pitbull Cruz to sign to fight him. This is Ryan’s third opponent that he’s been trying to fight in recent months, and it doesn’t look good.  The fighters that have been mentioned as potential opponents for Ryan Garcia recently:

1. Devin Haney
2. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero
3. Jose Ramirez

Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero: “Now it’s Rolly vs. Pitbull on Amazon Prime, the largest network in boxing history. This fight is an explosion 💥”

Garcia’s Open Challenge

Ryan Garcia: “Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, you know who we’re trying to make a fight. How about you come show me what you’re about? Sign a contract, and let’s see who is the truth,” said Ryan on social media.

“Rolly and Pitbull, do what you want. I don’t need any of you. At all. None of you want to fight, and making the biggest purse of your life is not my problem. Go ahead and fight between yourselves.”

The big question is, why do Rolly and Ryan want to drag a 135-pounder, Pitbull Cruz, up to 140 to fight when there are many top fighters at light welterweight that they could fight? Rolly should be fighting his mandatory 40-year-old Ismael Barroso, who destroyed Ohara Davies by a first-round knockout on January 6th to capture the WBA interim light welterweight title.
