Roy Jones Jr. says IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis could prove to be a “very difficult fight” for the 36-year-old Terence Crawford at this stage of his career.
He views the 26-year-old Boots Ennis as a serious threat to Crawford and capable of knocking the Nebraska native off his throne after just five months of sitting in the King’s spot after his win over Errol Spence Jr. last July.
Crawford: Reluctant to Rumble?
Roy feels that Ennis has the raw talent to defeat Crawford, so he ends his 15 minutes of fame to bring him back down to earth. However, Crawford shows reluctance to share the ring with the young killer, Boots, making some believe that he wants to avoid being brought back to where he was before his overnight fame from his victory over the worn-out-looking Spence.
Most would agree that Errol is just a shadow of the fighter he was five years ago, having had the best of him taken out from his terrible car crash in 2019. Crashing at 100 mph in a Ferrari Spyder will do that to a person.
Jones Jr. thinks that with the talent skills of the unbeaten ‘Boots’ Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs), “anything can happen” in a fight against former two-time undisputed champion Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs).
“I don’t know because we haven’t seen Boots in anybody that was good enough to test his chin. That’s the only thing we don’t know about him yet,” said Roy Jones Jr. to YSM Sports Media when asked how Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis does against Crawford.
Will the Fight Ever Happen?
It’s not looking good for Boots Ennis and Crawford to fight, considering Terence dreams of big money against Canelo Alvarez and is unlikely to want to risk his hide against the young phenom from Philadelphia. There’s too much risk involved for Crawford because Boots is faster, stronger, younger, bigger, and more talented than him.
“We don’t know if he can take a real punch yet because we haven’t seen it, but as far as skill goes, he’s [Boots] has everything. That fight could be a very difficult fight [for Crawford] because he has everything. When a guy is talented and has the skills that Boots has, anything can happen. Bud has that skill level, too. So great fight,” said Jones Jr.
