Rolly Romero Throws Jabs at Teofimo Lopez, Focuses on ‘Pitbull’ Cruz Clash

Rolando’ Rolly’ Romero cleared the air today about the sparring video of him getting beaten up by Teofimo Lopez years ago, saying that footage was from 2016 before he’d turned pro and was only 17. Rolly says he saved Teofimo from “killing himself a few times.

Teofimo has his reasons for wanting to release the video, but Rolly thinks that he’s “broke” and “desperate.” If it’s true that Teo is down & out, you have to wonder what he did with all his money.

That might explain why Teofimo has been calling out WBA/WBC/WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford night & day, because he might be needy.

Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) has improved dramatically since sparring with Teofimo, and he now holds the WBA light welterweight title and defends his strap for the first time against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on March 30th on Amazon Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Sparring Sessions and Past Ties

“October 27th, 2016, I hadn’t even turned pro,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero to Fighthype about the sparring video of him and Teofimo Lopez, which showed him getting completely dominated and looking worse than he did in his loss to Gervonta Davis and his controversial win over 40-year-old Ismael Barroso.

“I got so many videos of me cracking him. I got video of me busting his nose and leaking out blood,” continued Rolly about his sparring with Teofimo in the past. “But I don’t want to go into details about that. Teofimo, he was a brother to me.

If the two continue beefing, they can meet in the ring and settle things in a unification.

Warning to Lopez and A Look Ahead

“Every question that you ask about Teofimo Lopez, I know the answer to. I saved the kid from killing himself a few times,” said Rolly.

I don’t know what he’s doing right now, but it’s not Teofimo. It sounds like he’s being desperate for something and it sounds like he’s broke right now.

“You don’t want to pick a battle with someone who knows you too well, who knows everything about you,” said Rolly about Teofimo.

Fireworks on Amazon Prime

“It’s going to be a banger, it’s going to be fireworks, and I think it’s going to be the right fight to kick off Amazon Prime,” said Rolly about his March 30th fight against Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
