Joshua’s Alleyway Walk: Decoding the Ngannou Fight and Its Potential Fallout

Anthony Joshua reacted on social media today about the signing of his lucrative fight against Francis Ngannou for March 8th.

Joshua posted a photo of him from a video game, showing him walking through an alley to represent what he’s up against by facing the 0-1 Ngannou, who is coming off a ten round split decision loss to Tyson Fury.

There are no estimates on Joshua’s purse for the Ngannou fight, but it’s expected to be many millions. This event will likely bring in better PPV numbers than the Fury vs. Ngannou pay-per-view clash last October, which reportedly did poorly.

Fans didn’t want to buy it. Ngannou’s performance against Fury, knocking him down and coming close to beating him, will help create buzz for his fight with Joshua.

Big win for Joshua

“This version of AJ, with Ben Davison in his corner, they’re going to have a great game plan,” said Chris Mannix on his YouTube channel.

“This version of AJ is going to set a trap that Ngannou is going to walk into, and he’s going to walk into a big right hand, and he’s not going to have been hit by the kind of power that a boxer like Anthony Joshua possesses.

“This is a big win for Joshua. He’s going to be able to get an incredibly lucrative fight. It’s a less risky fight than Wilder looked like before his loss to Joseph Parker, and he’s able to keep his career moving.

“No breaks. He fights in December; he fights again in March. If he wins, he can probably fight again by this summer. Big win for Anthony Joshua.

“Francis Ngannou, because of his performance [in losing to Tyson Fury], he allowed himself to be in this type of fight because you can sell it. Can Ngannou knock out AJ? He knocked down Fury.

“It’s also can AJ do what Tyson Fury couldn’t. Tyson Fury beat Nganou [by controversial ten round split decision last October]. Can AJ knock him out?

“So, Ngannou’s performance put him in this position, and he’s going to make a pile of money,” said Mannix.
