Haney’s Price Tag: Stumbling Block on the Road to Davis Fight?

By Ken Hissner - 01/31/2024 - Comments

Devin Haney said to Gervonta Davis’ team that he’s willing to agree to the same deal that Ryan Garcia got for a fight against them to make the match happen.

If Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) stubbornly insists on the same deal popular influencer Ryan Garcia got for his fight with Tank Davis last April, he won’t get the fight.

He’ll have priced himself out, and we’re not even beginning to speak on the weight stipulations that Team Tank will likely want from the 165 lb Haney.

To get the Tank Davis fight, it’s a given that Haney would need to agree to a catchweight, but he’s resistant to that, too. Today, when told that he will need to agree to a catchweight get the fight with Gervonta, Haney said on X, “Kiss my [bleep].”

Unfortunately, Tank Davis’ coaches don’t view WBC light welterweight champion Haney as a draw.

They believe the ticket numbers for his last fight against Regis Prograis last December fail to tell the whole story. They say that the tickets were sold at a reduced price as the fight approached so they could fill the arena- real sneaky stuff.

The rumors are that tickets were given out as complimentary to help fill the Chase center at the last minute for the Haney-Prograis fight.

The leaked PPV numbers for Haney’s fight with Prograis were a mere 50,000 buys, which is horrible.

Haney’s Offer: Matching Garcia’s Deal

“I said I would take the same deal as Ryan.. yall over there scared to death!” said Devin Haney on X, talking about his wanting the same deal as Ryan Garcia got for a fight against Gervonta Davis.

“You can’t have the tickets selling at one price and then drop them below half prize the closest you get to the fight,” said Kenny Ellis, the coach for Tank Davis, explaining on social media why Haney isn’t the biggest fight for Gervonta.

“You can’t bait people by fake [bleep] ticket sales. The house is full, but they ain’t really paid the money that it cost,” said Ellis.

“I don’t know the numbers when they sit down and look at his [Haney] last fight [against Regis Prograis on December 9th at the Chase Center in San Francis, California], and asked the questions that we asked at the table,” said Tank’s trainer Calvin Ford.

“I know the numbers, 40,000 people,” Kenny Ellis jokingly said.
