Both inside and outside of the squared circle, the 34-year-old Ramla Ali was gradually building her brand. Outside of the ring, she is a model and an activist, but inside of the ring, her brand as a boxer took a hit when she lost her undefeated status in brutal fashion.

A native of Mogadishu, Somalia, Ramla Ali and her family moved to England from Somalia as refugees from the Somali Civil War. Ali picked up boxing during her teen years as a form of exercise for weight loss, and years later, she would go on to make history.

At the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, which took place in July 2021, Ramla Ali became the first boxer to represent Somalia. A year later, as a pro boxer, Ali made history once again when she participated in the first women’s boxing match to ever take place in Saudi Arabia.

Ali’s boxing career was developing nicely until she was hit with her first case of adversity. On July 17, 2023, as part of the Regis Prograis-Danielito Zorrilla event at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ramla Ali stepped inside the ring to face Julissa Guzman.

Ali was boxing well in the early rounds as she utilized her jab, the left hook, and she also landed some sharp combinations. Julissa Guzman responded by scoring a knockdown in the 5th, and then she proceeded to knockout Ali when she landed a vicious left hook in the 8th round.

Now, the Mexican boxer Julissa Alejandra Guzman (13-2-2, 7 KOs) is ready to face Ali for a second time as she plans to produce the same result. Guzman feels confident in her preparation, and she’s also confident that she will knock Ali out once again inside of eight rounds.

During the face-off after the press conference, Guzman kissed both of her fists and placed them in Ramla Ali’s face while smiling. Guzman continued to play mental games at the weigh-in when she smiled while placing her right fist in Ali’s face.

In the first fight, the 26-year-old Julissa Guzman was the underdog, but for the rematch, she is the slight betting favorite. Julissa Guzman is the brawler, and Ramla Ali is the better boxer, but the question is, will Ali be able to generate enough power to keep Guzman off of her for ten rounds?
