By Geoffrey Ciani: Coming up on September 30, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a bout that will be televised on Showtime PPV – the undisputed world junior middleweight champion, Jermell Charlo, will challenge the undisputed world super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez.

This will be the first time in history we will see a showdown that is technically between two reigning 4-belt undisputed world champions from different weight classes. Even though Charlo will technically enter the ring as the undisputed world champion at 154, the WBO has already announced that – they will allow Charlo to keep the belt for now, so as to maintain the unprecedented prestige of seeing two reigning 4 belt undisputed champs face off, but as soon as he is announced as such, Tim Tszyu will be named as the new WBO champion at 154.

Canelo last fought earlier this year in May when he beat John Ryder by 12 round unanimous decision to successfully defend his undisputed crown. Charlo last fought in May of last year when he stopped Brian Castano in round 10 of their rematch. So not only is Charlo moving up two weight classes to challenge Canelo, he has also been less active in recent years. Since the beginning of 2021 Jermell has fought just 2 times, whereas Canelo has had 6 fights over that same time frame. These are factors that would seem to favor Canelo in this highly unusual and technically unprecedented situation.

So who will win the upcoming September 30 showdown between challenger Jermell Charlo and the undisputed world super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez?

This edition of Rummy’s Corner will attempt to answer that very question, while also providing a quick preview for the upcoming super middleweight championship fight in Las Vegas. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
