By Vince D’Writer: In the opening bout of the Most Valuable Promotions Prospect Series 2 event, the highly touted 20-year-old junior bantamweight prospect Krystal Rosado made her professional debut as she defeated Tarrethia Dixon (1-1, 1 KO) by way of 2nd round stoppage.
Rosado’s introduction to the pro ranks was a highly anticipated event due to her amateur pedigree, and her affiliation with a well-known boxing champion who she initially met when she was 15-years-old. Undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano was immediately impressed with Rosado’s potential, and she now occupies a managerial role with the talented prospect.
A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Krystal Rosado represented her island in the 2023 IBA Women’s World Championships. She also won a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
On the night of August 18th, Rosado was ready to make her pro debut. Her opponent Tarrethia Dixon was looking to once again play the role of the spoiler. Two months prior, Dixon used her powerful right hand to stop the former two-time Golden Gloves amateur champion Natalie Gray in the first round.
In the opening bout on Friday night, Tarrethia Dixon came out very aggressive as she threw the right hand early and often. Krystal Rosado was able to settle down in the second half of the opening round as she landed some solid body shots.
Rosado came out blazing in the 2nd round as she landed a flurry of shots to the head and body of Dixon. Forty seconds into the 2nd round, Rosado focused on her opponent’s body as the body work was making the inexperienced Dixon feel very uncomfortable.
Rosado proceeded to land three consecutive body shots followed by a big right hand upstairs, and a couple of additional shots to the body. Dixon turned her back, and the referee proceeded to step in and put a halt to the contest.
With the win, Krystal Rosado (1-0, 1 KO) has officially made a successful leap to the pro ranks. During the post-fight interview Rosado dedicated the victory to her family, while her manager Amanda Serrano expressed her pride.
“I’m extremely proud. I was more nervous for her then my fights, but I know she puts in the work. She’s an amazing fighter. I knew her since she was a little girl, just to see how she’s evolved, and now she’s a woman, now she’s a professional fighter.”
