By Craig Daly: Edgar Berlanga says he wants to eliminate Jason Quigley on Saturday night, pack him up, and ship him back to his home in Ireland.

Quigley has been brought in as a warm-up fight for Berlanga to sharpen up afteer being out of the ring for a year, but he could prove to be a bridge too far.

Berlanga’s promoter Eddie Hearn says that if he struggles against Quigley, he’s not ready to face the better opposition he’d like to match him against.

In Berlanga’s last four fights, he showed he’d reached his ceiling about what he could do against C-level fighters. He was better than those guys, but not by much.

That’s why Top Rank chose to balk at moving Berlanga B-level opposition because they didn’t feel he was ready.

The undefeated super middleweight Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) needs to get Quigley (20-2, 14 KOs) out of the way to move to the next level of fighters. Berlanga wants to fight one of these guys next:

– John Ryder
– Gennadiy Golovkin
– Jaime Munguia
– Jermall Charlo
– David Benavidez

“Personally, I think he’s just going to be a ballerina, and if he does want to sit there and exchange and get into it, then I’m a puncher, so I’m ready for that,” said Edgar Berlanga to Fighthype about his opponent Jason Quigley.

“I just feel like right now; he’s just on that type of time. I know what it is; I know what he’s bringing. He’s just talking that, but like I said, the hands are going to do the talking this weekend.

“Disappointed? Nah, I’m just going in there to do what I do best. I’m going in there to hurt. I’m back to that mentality. I’m just breaking the mother f***ers down. Even in sparring, I’m breaking guys down. I’m hitting war bags.

“It’s aggression inside of me that I’m bringing this weekend. Using my jab, being quick on my feet, cutting the ring off, and using good head movement. If I do what I do and follow the game plan, like I said, Jason Quigley is not on my level.

“Where I want to go, he’s below. He’s down here. I’m aiming at the Canelos, Benavidez, Jaime Munguias, Charlos. These guys. These are the dudes I want to fight. This dude [Quigley] is in the way. I’ve got to take him out of there. Pack him up, zip him up, and send him back to Ireland.

“That’s something I want. I swear that I want that fight,” said Berlanga when asked if he’d like to fight Gennady Golovkin. “It’s already that time. You got Teofimo making history. I got to get on my s**t. That’s what really motivated me.

“I got to eliminate this dude, and then I want to talk about John Ryder, GGG. These are the type of guys for me to become a legend,” said Berlanga.
