By Vince D’Writer: Super-middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga makes his return to the ring, and his Matchroom debut tonight as he will face Jason Quigley (20-2, 14 KOs) at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden.

Berlanga was hit with a six-month suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission for attempting to bite Roamer Alexis Angulo during their fight in June 2022. Once the suspension ended Berlanga and Top Rank mutually agreed to part ways, and a month later, Berlanga signed with Matchroom Boxing.

Nicknamed “The Chosen One,” Berlanga started his career with 16 consecutive first round knockouts. During the knockout streak Berlanga was believed to be the next Puerto Rican boxing legend, but then his last four fights went the distance, and Berlanga received a large amount of constructive criticism.

Now Edgar Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) is motivated to return to his old form, and continue his pursuit for greatness. He plans on having a spectacular performance on Saturday night, and after his June 24th bout, he wants to step up and fight the elite in his weight class.

His opponent for June 24th, Jason Quigley, is not impressed with Berlanga’s flashy style outside of the ring, but he does respect Berlanga’s skills inside of the squared circle. Quigley has respect for Berlanga, but he believes he has what it takes to pull off the upset.

“I back myself all the way. The training that I have done, the stuff that we’ve been through, come through progressed from; I know I am the better man. Edgar is a great fighter, I’ve come here to win, and that’s going to make it a great fight. But I am the man. I’m here to progress my career and my life,” Quigley stated at the final presser.

As for Edgar Berlanga, when he steps in the ring on Saturday night, he will be out to prove that he’s the 16-0 guy who was knocking everybody out in the first round, as opposed to the guy who went 4-0 and looked average in all four fights. Berlanga wants to look impressive and then move on to the bigger fights.

“I want to thank all my fans for buying tickets, another sold out show, it’s a blessing,” Berlanga said at the final presser. “I feel great, I’m ready to go. For me there are bigger fish out there the GGG’s, the Charlo’s, these are the guys I want to get in the ring with. I feel I am ready and seasoned to get in the ring with them, but I must beat the sh*t out of Jason Quigley this weekend, that’s what it is.”

On June 24th at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden live on DAZN at 8 p.m. ET/1 a.m. BST, Edgar Berlanga wants to showcase his skills and prove to the world why his name should be mentioned with the elite in his division. In order to do that, Berlanga must look dominant against Quigley, and then he can move on to pursue his career goals.

“I’m in the ring to destroy him and get to the next level, and really conquer the 168 division and become a legend in this sport. I want to go down as one of the greatest Puerto Rican fighters to ever live.”
