Pacheco Calls Out Berlanga: “You’re Dirty, I’ll School You”

Diego Pacheco says he sees unbeaten super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga as a “dirty fighter” and says he would “school him” if he gets the opportunity to fight him.

They’re both promoted by Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, which should make it easy to put together. If Hearn gives these two fighters the green light, I can see them going to war.

Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) took a shot at Pacheco on social media over the weekend, calling him a “super a***” on X. It’s pretty obvious there’s zero love between these two Hearn-promoted knockout artists.

Why Berlanga Could Be Ducking Pacheco?

  • He Wants a World Title: Berlanga wants a crack at undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez to make life-changing money to make a wealthy person with enough dough to live in Tribeca, the trendy, expensive area of lower Manhattan, New York. You have to have tons of cash to live there.
  • Risk vs. Reward: Pacheco has a lot of punching power, and he’d be dangerous on the inside or the outside with his combination punching.
  • The Benavidez Connection: Pacheco has learned a lot from his sparring with David Benavidez and would be a real threat to Berlanga.

I don’t see why Berlanga would take a risky fight against Pacheco when he can use his mandatory position to challenge WBA ‘regular’ champion David Morrell Jr. for his belt.

Why fight Pacheco if you can battle Morrell for his belt? Of course, if Berlanga is afraid of Morrell, it’s understandable why he would go for the easier fight against Pacheco. It’s pathetic, but I guess you got to know your limitations.

The “Dirty Fighter” Label

Pacheco didn’t say why he views Berlanga as a dirty fighter, but it could be that him biting his opponent Roamer Alexis Angulo during their fight in 2022 has helped form his opinion about him.

I can totally understand that. Berlanga looked frustrated in that fight due to the [problems that Angulo was giving him, so he snapped mentally at one point moments before the bite incident.

Pacheco’s Trash Talk is A+

“I think he’s a dirty fighter, he really don’t got that much skill. That chin is a little sus. I just feel I’m levels ahead of him. I’d school him and make it look easy,” said Diego Pacheco to Thaboxingvoice, giving his thoughts on Edgar Berlanga.
