David Morrell slams Benavidez, labels him a “duck”

By Sam Volz: David Morrell Jr ripped ‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez after he came out and denied that a fight between them was agreed to for October or November, even though his own promoter Sampson Lewkowicz said it had.

You can imagine how Canelo Alvarez is probably enjoying all this. Benavidez and his dad have been chasing a fight against him for years, complaining about being ducked, and now we’re seeing ‘The Mexican Monster’ do the same thing to Cuban talent Morrell Jr, who is the new kid on the block and arguably aa far better talent.

The WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion Morrell (9-0, 8 KOs), who some see as the real #1 at 168, went after Benavidez, saying he’s a “fraud,” and the Benavidez are “cowards.”

It’s not a shock that Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) is denying that he’s agreed to the fight with Morrell because his dad/trainer Jose Benavidez Sr said yesterday that he doesn’t want the fight.

Jose Sr. said he wants Jaime Munguia for Benavidez, which is understandable given how bad he looked in his fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

That doesn’t mean Benavidez is going to get the fight with Munguia because Golden Boy Promotion aren’t going to want to throw him in with David and watch ten years of careful match-making go down the drain.

“This is false. We haven’t agreed to anything,” said David Benavidez on social media in reacting to the news from his promoter that the fight with David Morrell is agreed for October or November.

It’s clear from Benavidez’s denial of an agreement that he wants no part of fighting Morrell and views him as a threat to his future earnings potential.

Losing to Morrell could put Benavidez back to square one career-wise, sending him back to the salt mines, where he would be just another one of the many desperate contenders trying to make ends meet.

From Benavidez’s perspective, it’s understandable why he would want to avoid fighting Morrell because he’s been waiting all these years for Canelo to give him a shot at the mega-millions, and now he’s facing that is a real threat to his perch.

Morrell could knock Benavidez off the hill and take the spot, waiting for Canelo to fight him or retire.

“David Benavidez is a big b**h. A fat, insecure boy. Benavidez couldn’t walk down any street in Cuba without getting his shoes taken.”

“The Benavidez’ are a bunch of cowards. This is the guy you call The Mexican Monster? He’s a fraud.
