Canelo Alvarez’s 3-fight deal with PBC worth $100M+

By Charles Brun: Canelo Alvarez will be big bucks in his new three-fight deal with PBC, reportedly worth $100 million+ for his fight on September 16th against the capable Jermall Charlo and May & September 2024. That’s a lot of cash for Canelo to make, but hopefully, he doesn’t regret taking this deal.

Canelo could face Errol Spence & David Benavidez or David Morrell Jr in the other two fights on his three-fight contract with PBC.

Spence will be a huge fight for Canelo if he gets past Terence Crawford in their two welterweight clashes this year. Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs), if he accepts the challenge from WBA ‘regular’ 168-lb champion David Morrell Jr and beats him, would be an outstanding opponent for Canelo next year.

It’s good money for the 32-year-old ‘Face of Boxing Canelo (59-2-2, 39 KOs) to make with his three-fight deal with PBC, but hopefully, he has his eyes open about who he will be facing.

If things go wrong for Canelo, he could finish his deal with Al Haymon’scompany with an 0-3 record, and his career pretty much ended.

It’s safe to say that Canelo will beat the washed Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs), but he might not be so lucky for the next two fights of his three-fight deal with PBC.

If they put Canelo in with someone, not 100% shot, he could lose, particularly if it’s Morrell or the come-forward hulking cruiserweight-sized slugger Benavidez.

Did Canelo get tired of Matchroom’s weak opposition?

Some would argue that this move by Canelo (59-2-2, 39 KOs) to Premier Boxing Champions was hastened by him being tired of British promoter Eddie Hearn matching him against mediocre opposition:

– John Ryder
– Avni Yildirim
– Gennadiy Golovkin – *41 years old
– Rocky Fielding
– Billy Joe Saunders
– Callum Smith

Recently, Hearn has been chomping at the bit,  talking up a storm about wanting to put together a fight between Canelo and Edgar Berlanga in 2024.

Many boxing fans view Berlanga as a hype job, a guy with a record built on fluff opposition.

Hearn recently said that if Berlanga beats his opponent this Saturday, Jason Quigley, he could match him again John Ryder, Billy Joe Saunders, Jaime Munguia, or Golovkin next. One of those guys would be the fight that Berlanga would be proving that he deserves a fight against Canelo.

“The meeting between [Canelo’s trainer/manager] Eddy Reynoso and Al Haymon a few days ago paid off since it is almost a fact that Canelo signed a lucrative agreement that will exceed 100 million dollars for those three appointments in the ring, the one in September 2023 and the ones in May, and September of next year,” said Salvador Rodriguez to ESPN Deportes about Canlelo Alvaarez’s three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions [PBC], beginning with his September 16th clash with inactive middleweight Jermall Charlo.
