By Dan Ambrose: Devin Haney posted on Instagram tonight, seemingly pleased with the criticism he’s receiving from fans following his gift decision over challenger Vasyl Lomachenko last Saturday night.
In an Instagram post, Haney called himself the “Undisputed Villian,” showing that he may choose to try and become popular by being the bad guy like Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The problem that Haney has is that he lacks the talent to beat the best fighters, so his time as the “undisputed villain” is about to become extinct.
Shakur Stevenson has already said that he’s going to use his WBC mandatory status to force a fight with Haney, and that’s a fight that Devin will likely lose badly.
Even if Haney had the same three judges working Shkur fight that gave him his controversial win over Lomachenko, he’d be so badly dominated that there would be no chance of victory.
Haney should be concerned about how poor he looked against the undersized Lomachenko because if he’s having problems with him, he stands no chance against Shakur, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, Josh Taylor, Regis Prograis, or Subriel Matias.
Considering how bleak Haney’s future look, he needs to push his management to make the fight with Gervonta so that he can cash out like Ryan Garcia recently did because when he moves up to 140, the only champion he could possibly beat is Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.
“I’m cool with 115-113. It could have been that,” said former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring to Fight Hub TV, agreeing with the judges that gave the win to Devin Haney against Vasyl Lomachenko.
“I guess they were saying that Devin pulled out the twelfth round and that’s what broke it from a draw. You can’t call it a robbery. It was too high-level competitors fighting at the next level.
“I would love to see that next, but it’s up to Devin Haney to stay at lightweight,” said Herring when asked about the potential of Haneey fighting Gervonta Davis next. “The weight has been a factor for the last couple of fights.
“I know with Devin; it has to make sense. It has to be some real money on the table. But as a fight fan, I’d love to see that fight. Catchweight or whatever. It’s still a good fight.
“I would definitely want to see that fight, whether it’s t 135, 140, but boxing needs these types of match-ups to continue growing to get people growing and getting people interested in seeing the fights,” said Herring.
