Teddy Atlas says mole in Ryan Garcia’s camp had no bearing on outcome against Tank

By Brian Webber: Famed trainer Teddy Atlas says it’s “absurd” to think that the mole in Ryan Garcia’s camp had any bearing on the outcome of their fight last Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Atlas feels that it’s “laughable” to think that the tip that Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) was given by one of Ryan’s sparring partners about going to his body played a part in the way the contest ended.

As Teddy points out, Tank was going to attack Ryan’s body anyway, so any tip that he was given by a mole was pointless.

It’s beyond ridiculous to think the spy helped Davis win the fight, and it makes Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) look weak that he’s using that as a partial excuse to explain away his loss. Ryan is in denial about what happened.

The fact is, the Golden Boy-promoted Ryan was exposed by Gervonta last Saturday, as he showed that the popular fighter with 10 million Instagram followers couldn’t take it to the body or to the head. Moreover, the 24-year-old Kingry lacked discipline, and the ring IQ required to mix it with one of the best in the sport.

Let’s not kid ourselves. What Tank Davis did to Ryan would be duplicated by many of the top ten fighters at 135 and 140.

“We’re all aware now because it’s out there, and he’s [Erdenebat Tsendbaatar] out there, and he wanted that, in his mind, that fame, that publicity. I think that’s what it is,” said Teddy Atlas on his Youtube channel about Ryan Garcia’s sparring partner posting a video telling fans that he’d hurt Kingry to the body while training with him for the Gervonta Davis fight.

“In his mind, he probably wants fame, a little attention. He thinks he’s getting attention. I don’t think it’s good attention. I wouldn’t use him [Tsendbaatar] in a camp, to be quite frank. That’s not the first time this stuff happens,” Atlas continued about Ryan Garcia having a mole in his training camp for the Gervonta fight.

“There’s been stuff leaked in the camps in the 45 years that I’ve been involved, training fighters. I’ve seen it where information has been passed on from somebody that’s in camp. So it’s nothing new.

“I have to laugh a little bit that they’re going to make a big deal about how he could have tipped the scales one way or another as far as what happened in the ring. Are you going to tell me that if it wasn’t for this tip that Tank wasn’t going to go to the body? I got to laugh.

“So if they [Team Davis] didn’t get this tip, if this kid didn’t tip them off, he wasn’t going to go to the body. Please, stop, stop, stop. Did it actually influence the outcome of the fight? No, that’s absurd,” said Atlas.
