Jeff Mayweather previews Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia

By Allan Fox: Jeff Mayweather is picking Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to defeat Ryan Garcia in their 136-lb catchweight + 10-lb rehydration clause fight in less than two weeks on April 22nd on Showtime PPV t the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Jeff feels that Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) lacks the experience to win this fight with Tank because he’s only fought one decent opponent, Luke Campbell, in his seven-year professional career and was knocked down against him in 2021.

Ryan has fought only twice since the Campbell clash and turned down a fight recently against Mercito Gesta that he could have used as a badly-needed tune-up to get him better prepared for what’s in store for him against Gervonta.

Gervonta Davis has something Ryan doesn’t

“I think the fans are going to love this fight, but I choose Gervonta Davis to win this fight,” said Jeff Mayweather to Fighthype with his pick of Tank Davis to defeat Ryan Garcia.

“It probably won’t happen as easy as some of his other fights that he’s had. I think the fight doesn’t go past eight rounds, and I think up until that point,ย  the fights going to be close.

“I think Ryan is going to get his share of rounds, and Tank is going to get his share of rounds. I see there being only one man standing when it’s over, and that’s going to be Gervonta.

“I think he has what no one else in that division has, and that’s one-punch knockout power,” said Jeff about Gervonta. “That means he can beat any one of these guys. I’m not saying he can beat them all, but it only takes him on. Everyone else in that weight division, they can’t do that.

“Who has he fought?”ย  said Jeff Mayweather when told that Ryan Garcia has proven that he can knock his opponents out with one punch. “What did Luke Campbell do? Did he drop him? Okay then. The one guy you fought put you on your a**,” said Jeff noting that Ryan has only fought one notable opponent during his career, Luke Campbell, who dropped him in the second round.

“Don’t get me wrong. I think Ryan is a great fighter. I don’t take nothing from him, but I just think the guy that’s going to be in front of him is better.

“I seen him sparring with Rolly. I seen that,” said Jeff when asked if he remembered when Ryan Garcia would train at the Mayweather gym. “Basically, they became friends after that because they both became fans of one another. I didn’t pay too much attention to it because, at the time, I didn’t know who Ryan was.

“I’ve seen some of his fights since then, and he’s very impressive. I just think that if I’m going to bet my money, I’m going to bet my money on Gervonta Davis,” said Jeff.

Ryan Garcia’sย  flaws will be a problem

“That’s just going to be a factor in the fight,” said Jeff about Ryan Garcia fighting with his chin high in the air, making him an easy target for shots. “I don’t think that’s going to be the factor that opens up, and that’s going to be the reason why.

“I do think when the fight happens, anything can happen, and if he gets caught with his chin up in the air, believe me, if Gervonta hits him, he’s not getting up.

“That’s the one thing about Gervonta. People don’t have the tendency to see how intelligent he is as a boxer and the thing that he makes happen in the ring that he set up and went through the process of getting that person to that point.

“Most people just think that all of a sudden, out of the blue, he throws a big punch, and he gets lucky and knocks somebody out. It’s not like that. He has a whole lot more than just punching power.

“That’s the thing. If you have the chance to come here and have been around him or you just have knowledge of boxing, you’ve seen some of what he can do in the ring just shadowboxing. I think the fans are going to be the winners because it’s going to be a great fight,” said Jeff.
