Fury vs. Chisora III planned for December in Cardiff, Wales

By Charles Brun: Tyson Fury’s trilogy match against the old war horse Derek Chisora is being planned for December at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Here’s the interesting part. Rather than Fury’s promoters Bob Arum & Frank Warren promoting the Fury-Chisora III fight, it’ll be done through Goldstar Promotions, according to ESPN.

It’s unknown if Fury floated the idea of fighting the 38-year-old Chisora to Arum & Warren and was promptly shot down or if his promotional contract with them has expired.

It’s hard to imagine the money-wise promoter Arum agreeing to stage a fight between Fury and Chisora. Arum would likely see it as a fight that will hemorrhage money, resulting in huge losses.

If Chisora were a quality fighter, there would be an outside chance that one of the wealthy investors in Saudi Arabia would be willing to put up the money to make the Fury-Chisora fight in December.

Unfortunately, Chisora is a below-average heavyweight, and it would be a waste of time for one of the wealthy Saudis to stage this albatross in the middle east.

At this point, the two sides are seven figures apart, according to Mike Coppinger. Chisora (33-12, 23 KOs) asking for a million+ isn’t that big of a surprise, as anyone that fights Fury is expected to make big money.

If Chisora is looking for MORE than a million, it could be a problem. It’s not every day that you see a popular world champion like Fury suddenly decide he wants to fight a journeyman-level fighter.

With Fury’s sudden worry about taking damage in his fights, it makes sense that he would hand-pick Chisora rather than a top 15 contender for his stay-busy fight in December.

“The heavyweight champion’s preferred opponent is Derek Chisora. There is no deal yet, with the sides seven figures apart on Chisora’s purse, a source told ESPN,” said Mike Coppinger about the Fury vs. Chisora III negotiations status.

“The event is being eyed for December at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, a source told ESPN. Top Rank and Frank Warren have co-promoted Fury’s last five fights, but this offer was extended by Goldstar Promotions, the company that handles Fury’s meet-and-greets across the U.K., the source said,” said Coppinger.
