Tyson Fury wants a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk after Anthony Joshua, telling Rick Reno that his preferred finish would be victory in Cardiff followed by revenge at Madison Square Garden.
Usyk has already beaten him twice, but Fury remains interested in another attempt rather than a fresh opponent from the heavyweight division’s leading contenders.
“I want that rematch with him, that trilogy, because I know deep in my heart that I won those fights. And for whatever reason, he’s been given a decision over me,” Fury said to the Mr. Verzace podcast.
Fury described his ideal ending as beating Joshua in front of 80,000 in Cardiff, then going to Madison Square Garden to “get the revenge on the rabbit finally.” That is his preferred route, rather than an agreement for a third Usyk fight.
The appeal is understandable financially. Another meeting would likely produce an enormous payday, with two established names and a revenge story to sell. Fury could struggle to earn comparable money against Frank Sanchez, Filip Hrgovic or Moses Itauma.
There is also the knockout risk. Usyk isn’t a big puncher by heavyweight standards and is considerably smaller than Fury. He badly hurt Fury in their first meeting, so another fight would hardly be harmless, but Fury has twice completed 12 rounds against him.
Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley, Itauma, Hrgovic and Sanchez present different physical threats. They have the power to stop Fury, and facing one of them could mean accepting that danger for less money. Another points loss to Usyk would be easier to explain than getting knocked out by a new opponent.
Fury claiming robbery gives him the narrative hook to sell a trilogy. It lets him pitch a third bout as settling unfinished business rather than admitting he sits on two official losses to the same fighter.
Joshua remains the immediate hurdle in Cardiff. Fury must get past that domestic clash before any retirement tour holds weight. Overcoming Joshua opens the door to another massive payday against Usyk, all while keeping the division’s lethal young punchers safely locked on the outside.
