Devin Haney hints Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is ducking him

By Chris Williams: Devin Haney has already picked out Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis as his next foe after scooping up the four belts from unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. this Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.

Tank is coming off of the biggest win of his career, a sixth-round stoppage over Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In that fight, Rolly surprisingly outboxed Tank for the first five rounds before getting greedy in the sixth and getting caught rushing in.

Haney is a lot more disciplined than Rolly, and he won’t get sloppy in the way he did against Tank, making him a nightmare to deal with in a 12-round fight.

WBC lightweight champion Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) hints that Tank (27-0, 25 KOs) has been ducking him since they sparred together, and he feels that he’s got the size, speed, and the ring IQ to deal the famous secondary champion his first career defeat.

First, Haney has to defeat the Australian Kambosos, the accidental champion, this Sunday night at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. Haney can make this an easy fight, but the worry is whether his victory will be taken away by the judges.

The whole world will be watching, so if Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) is given a controversial win, fans will see the fight and create a storm of complaints to overshadow the victory.

“I thought he showed superb boxing skills against Isaac Cruz because Cruz is no joke. I don’t think we can summarily dismiss him. He’s one of the top fighters in the world, although he’s not you, at least not in my estimation. Gervonta Davis is ducking you?”

“Skills pay the bills. If you can’t hit somebody, how can you knock them out?” said Devin Haney to Stephen A. Smith on ESPN, talking about Tank Davis.

“That’s the name of the game, hit and not get hit, and when I go in there, I barely get hit. He [Gervonta] knows my size advantage, speed, and ring IQ. We’ve been in the ring, we’ve sparred before, so he knows what I bring to the table,” said Haney.

“Gervonta Davis might be every bit of box office as Maverick himself, as exciting, as electric because this dude performs every time out, y’all,” said Stephen A. Smith to ESPN.

“Wherever Davis goes, wherever he fights, the fans justifiably follow. He’s that special, and Davis is without a doubt one of the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world right now. Don’t you even doubt it?

“Gervonta Davis, this man is a knockout artist. He’s called the ‘Miniature Mike Tyson’ by some people. He’s Tank; he is a knockout artist,” said Stephen A.
