Coming up on June 7th from Saitama, Japan, in a championship bout that will be available on ESPN+, the undefeated unified IBF/WBA super duper bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue, will square off in a rematch against WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire.

The Monster and The Filipino Flash first battled it out back in November 2019, in an IBF-WBA super duper unification match, which was also the final match in the World Boxing Super Series. At the end of 12 entertaining rounds of action, Inoue was awarded a unanimous decision victory to become the unified bantamweight champion. The match itself was considered the 2019 Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine.

Since they last met, Inoue had made 3 successful defenses of his unified championship, and Donaire has won 2 in a row, where he won the WBC bantamweight title to regain a portion of the crown and he also successfully defended that title. So this unification bout will be for 3 of the big 4 belts in the 118 pound weight class. So the two champions are a combined 5-0 with 5 stoppage victories since their first meeting.

The biggest challenge for Donaire going up against his 29 year old former conqueror is the fact that The Filipino Flash is getting up there in age and will turn 40 later this year. On the flipside, the thing that potentially makes this one especially challenging for Inoue is the fact that Donaire has nothing to lose, and his style proved challenging last time.
