‘I’m the best at legalized bank robbery’ – Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather Jr

By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr sounded proud last Sunday, bragging about fleecing the fans in the aftermath of his eight-round exhibition match against YouTuber Logan Paul. There were no winners in this fight due to it being an exhibition.

This is what you call a bank robbery in broad daylight, as Mayweather looked feeble, old, using what’s left of his atrophied boxing skills to battle the large lumbering 6’1″ Logan Paul.

When the final numbers come in for last Sunday’s Showtime PPV fight, Mayweather’s haul for the fight could be in excess of $100 million.

The average fan can’t relate to what it’s like to make that kind of money. It’s absurd to even contemplate Mayweather bringing in a haul like that in a fight that was so low-level.

Mayweather says it’s about money

“They say, ‘It’s not all about the money.’ Well, your kids can’t eat legacy. The patches on my trunks, [earned me] $30 million alone,” said a beaming Mayweather after the fight.

Mayweather didn’t have to put his legacy on the line by fighting a real boxer to make the cash. That’s the shocking part.

If Mayweather had to fight a real light heavyweight like Artur Beterbiev last Sunday, he might still be asleep today from the encounter. It would have ended badly for Mayweather.

He’s entitled to an insane 50% of the pay-per-view revenue for the fight, which could be quite high given his opponent Logan Paul’s 20 million subscribers on YouTube.

“So who’s really the smartest one in the sport of boxing? When it comes to legalized bank robbing, I’m the best,” said Mayweather.

Floyd says it’s up to the fans if they want to purchase his fights or not, and he’s right. It’s too bad there are so many gullible boxing fans, who have no clue.

In this case, it’s a little different. Likely, most people who purchase the Mayweather-Paul fight last Sunday on Showtime PPV were Logan’s YouTube fans.

As I mentioned, these aren’t necessarily boxing fans. The people that likely purchased the event were Logan and his brother Jake Paul’s fans from YouTube.

The Paul brothers made this fight a success

Logan and Jake Paul have 20 million+ subscribers that they advertised the Mayweather vs. Paul fight to. When you have that many subscribers, you can market almost anything with them and make huge money.

It’s troubling that Mayweather sounds proud of having delivered the fans a poor product. For anyone that holds down a 9 to 5 job, you have to perform in the real world or you wind up jobless.

Mayweather’s in-your-face attitude about giving his paying fans a shoddy product says a lot about him and his values.

With a fortune of half a billion, you can argue that Mayweather is no longer living in the real world, and he doesn’t care the fans or the negative impact that he’s making on the sport. It’s pure slash and burn with Mayweather.

It’s the fan’s fault if they feel they were ripped off – again – by Mayweather last Sunday.

The buyer purchases at his own risk, and if you don’t do your research into what kind of product or lack thereof that Mayweather delivers to fans, you’re going to get what we saw last Sunday.

Mayweather has never been an exciting fighter, even when he was younger. He was just a guy with blazing hand speed who used his speed to win fights against slower guys.

Now that Mayweather’s speed is gone, all you’re left with is the same safety-first fighting style that he’s always used in the past, and as we saw against Logan, he is so boring to watch.
