By Sean Jones: Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell now have another new date of January 2, 2021, for their fight for the interim WBC lightweight belt on DAZN.

Their 135-lb clash has arguably been jinxed with it scheduled several times, and one can only hope that the fight actually takes place. Garcia vs. Luke will be the headliner on the Golden Boy Promotions card.

Garcia-Campbell was previously scheduled to fight on December 5th, but Campbell tested positive for COVID 19, which resulted in the match being moved.

There was talk of the fight being moved to December 26th, but thankfully, it has been pushed to January 2. But even that date isn’t ideal, as it comes one day after the New Year.

At this point, you have to be a little skeptical that Garcia and Campbell will stick to that date given the number of times this fight has been moved. These aren’t old guys breaking down, but it’s still been incredibly difficult getting the match made.

King Ryan takes a step up

Ryan ‘Kingry’ Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) will be looking to show why his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions believe he’s the next superstar in the sport. They’ve given a good B-level fighter in #2 WBC Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) to show what he can do.

Many boxing fans believe that Ryan is heading towards a crushing defeat against Campbell, including Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn. That would be bad for Golden Boy, as they believe that he could be their star.

The venue for the Garcia vs. Campbell fight has yet to be decided, but Ryan recently said that he believes it’ll be taking place in San Antonio, Texas.

If it does get staged in Texas, it would be in front of a live crowd because that stage is allowing fans to attend boxing events.

There’s no word yet on the undercard for King Ryan vs. Campbell fight, but they need someone good to help attract interest. Ryan has a following in the U.S, but not Campbell. He’s from the UK, and when he did fight in the United States

“With this new year, a new era for Golden Boy begins, and we can’t wait to unleash our international stable of prospects, contenders, and world champions,” said Oscar De La Hoya. “And what better way to start this new chapter than with boxing’s newest crossover star?

“Despite being just 22 years old, Ryan Garcia has already built a huge fan base, and once he gets past Luke Campbell, the sky is the limit.

“I’m excited we have a new date and can finally bring this to the fans. I’m here, and I’m ready to ring in the new year with a victory,” said Ryan Garcia.

Campbell confident of victory

“What a way to start 2021 this is going to be with a clinical Luke Campbell win,” said Campbell.

Luke has got the experience, the age, and the boxing skills to defeat Ryan. Campbell doesn’t have the chin, as he’s been hurt before by lesser punchers than Garcia.
