Boxing Results: Jose Zepeda stops Ivan Baranchyk in 5th round knockout

By Barry Holbrook: In a fight of the year candidate, Jose Zepeda (33-2, 26 KOs) four times got off the deck to come back to score a brutal 5th round knockout over Ivan ‘The Beast’ Baranchyk (20-2, 13 on Saturday night at ‘The Bubble’ At the MGM Grand in Las Vegada.

Zepeda flattened the 27-year-old former IBF light-welterweight champion Baranchyk in the 5th round with a big left hook.

Baranchyk was knocked down by Zepeda in rounds 2, 3, 4. and 5. For his part, Zepeda was knocked down twice in round 1, 2, and 5.

The fight was then stopped. Moments before that, Baranchyk had hurt Zepeda with a big shot.

With the win, Zepeda, 31, captured the vacant WBC Silver light-welterweight title and puts himself in a position to fight for the title against WBC 140-lb champion Jose Ramirez.

Gabriel Flores defeats Ryan Kielczweski

Undefeated super featherweight Gabriel Flores Jr. (19-0, 6 KOs) outclassed Ryan Kielczweski (30-5, 11 KOs) in beating him by a 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at ‘The Bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scores were 100-90, 99-91, and  98-92.

Flores was stunned by a big left hook from Kielczweski in round one, but he recovered well from that point on and dominated the remainder of the contest with his hand speed. and overall quickness.

Guido Viannelo vs. Kingsley Ibeh ends in a draw

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Guido Viannelo (7-0-1, 7 KOs) fought to a disappointing six-round draw against Kingsley Ibeh (5-1-1, 4 KOs) on Saturday night on ESPN+ at the Bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vianenelo took a lot of hard shots from Ibeh and ended up with a cut on his left eye early in the contract. It wasn’t just the cut though that gave Viannelo problems. He took a lot of punishment in getting his facial features rearranged by Ibeh.

The judges scored it 59-55 Ibeh, 57-57, and 57-57. Boxing News 24 had it a deadlock at 57-57. It’s safe to say that Viannelo was exposed in the fight.

It’s got to be a disappointment for Top Rank for Vianello to have been fought to a standstill by a guy that he was supposed to beat with ease, but oh well.

At least they now know what they got in him.

Duke Ragan decisions John Moraga

Unbeaten featherweight Duke Ragan (2-0, 1 KOs) beat John Moraga (1-2, 1 KOs) by a four-round unanimous decision. The scores were 40-46, 40-36, and 40-36.

Frevian Gonzalez beats Carlos Marrero III

Unbeaten junior lightweight Frevian Gonzalez (4-0, 1 KO) defeated Carlos Marrero III (2-4-1, 0 KOs) by a four-round majority decision. Boxing News 24 had it for Gonzalez by a 40-36.

That’s what two other judges scored it as 40-36 and 40-36. The third judge had it knotted up at 38-38.

Mitchell Sipe destroys Jimmy Barnes

Fighting for the first time, heavyweight prospect Mitchell Sipe (1-0, 1 KOs) defeated Jimmy Barnes (1-1, 1 KOs) by a first-round knockout.

Haven Brady Jr stops Gorwar Karyah

in another fighter making his debut in the pro ranks, featherweight Haven Brady Jr (1-0, 1 KOs) beat Gorwar Karyah (2-2, 2 KOs) by a fourth-round knockout.

JJ Mariano scores 1st round KO over Matthew Reed

147-pound prospect JJ Mariano (3-0, 2 KOs) beat Matthew Reed (1-1, 1 KOs) by a first-round knockout. The judge stopped the fight at 1:27 of the first round.
