Da’Mazion Vanhouter Faces Early Danger Against Ivan Balaz

By Boxing News 24 Desk - 10/02/2026 - Comments

Da’Mazion Vanhouter will bring his knockout power to London against Ivan Balaz on November 7, but the unbeaten American heavyweight faces an opponent who has already shown he can hurt a British prospect.

Vanhouter (13-0, 10 KOs), 21, meets Balaz (9-1, 7 KOs) over eight rounds at the Copper Box Arena on Zuffa Boxing 12. He makes his UK debut with six first-round knockouts in his last seven appearances.

Balaz provides a useful reference point for British viewers. He dropped Johnny Fisher in the opening round of their December fight before Fisher recovered to stop him in the fourth. That defeat exposed Balaz’s limitations, but the knockdown showed the danger of giving him opportunities during early exchanges.

For Vanhouter, the temptation will be to produce another quick finish. His power makes him a promising addition to Zuffa’s heavyweight roster, although forcing a knockout could give Balaz the openings he needs.

Vanhouter has already acknowledged the importance of controlling that urge. Discussing Moses Itauma’s defeat against Filip Hrgovic, he told UFC:

“You’ve got to be able to gauge your gas pedal better… You can’t take everybody out.”

Balaz’s performance against Fisher gives that observation practical relevance. Vanhouter needs to apply pressure without becoming careless, keeping himself protected when he moves into punching range rather than assuming his power will end every exchange.

If Balaz survives the opening rounds, Vanhouter can show another part of his development: whether he can create opportunities patiently and maintain his technique as the fight progresses. A controlled victory would offer more evidence of his potential than a reckless chase for another highlight.

The London appearance also gives Zuffa an opportunity to build recognition for an American prospect among British heavyweight fans. Vanhouter has the finishing record to attract attention; this fight offers a chance to demonstrate the judgment needed against better opposition.

Chris Billam-Smith faces Cheavon Clarke in the main event, with Denzel Bentley meeting Shane Mosley Jr. on the same card.
