Ryan Garcia still HYPING Gervonta Davis contest

By Jeff Aronow: Ryan ‘Kingry’ Garcia still hasn’t given up with him hyping up a fight that has little chance of taking place anytime soon against lightweight world champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Ryan is no longer interested in waiting to get the fight against Tank. He wants it to happen in 2020, and 1 to 3 years down the road when it’s been properly marinated.  Tank Davis is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, and they believe in letting important fights build before making them.

Ryan Garcia vs Tank Davis to marinate more

Floyd Mayweather Jr. made a fortune by waiting six years before fighting Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Had Mayweather taken that fight back in 2009 when the boxing world first wanted him to, he would have made only a small fraction of what he ended up making.

Davis vs. Ryan Garcia will likely be put on the same long-term marinating course. It’s doubtful that Mayweather Promotions will dare to wait 6 years before making the Davis-Garcia fight because these guys might lose during that time.

If Ryan and Davis do fight, it won’t be until 2021 or later. The timing is bad right now, and Garcia still needs to beat his first quality opponent. He’s had it easy so far, and he needs to be brought along in stages by his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions to get him ready for a title shot against WBA World lightweight champion Tank Davis (23-0, 22 KOs).

Ryan taunts Tank Davis

“Dad I want to act, Talk, and be exactly like you, I don’t want no originality to my self. I am you and you are me. Thank you daddy Mayweather” -Gervonta Davis,” said Ryan Garcia @KingRyanG. “Don’t judge a book before reading the full story.”

The popular lightweight contender Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) traded memes on social media with Tank Davis on Thursday to try and motivate him to make the fight between them.

With the state of California in lockdown by order of the governor and the dire projections of half the state being infected by the coronavirus in the near future, Ryan seems disengaged about what’s happening.

Ryan picked up a couple of decent first-round knockout wins lately over Francisco Fonseca and Romero Duno, and that has a lot of boxing fans believing that he could unseat Tank. However, Duno and Fonseca aren’t in the same class as Tank Davis.  What Ryan needs is to beat 3 or 4 talented lightweights and/or super featherweights to raise his profile.

These are the fighters that Kingry Garcia should be taking on now:

  • Jorge Linares
  • Pablo Cesar Cano
  • Miguel Berchelt
  • Oscar Valdez
  • Leo Santa Cruz
  • Luke Campbell
  • Robert Easter Jr.
  • Javier Fortuna
  • Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz
  • Rene Alvarado
  • Jamel Herring
  • Carl Frampton
