Kell Brook: I want Danny Garcia, Khan or Thurman-Porter winner

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) is saying that he wants to fight WBC welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) or Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter winner in the summer in a unification fight if he can’t get a match-up with Amir Khan in the summer at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Supposedly, Khan is pricing himself out for the fight, according to Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn. However, Khan says that Brook doesn’t want the fight and that he’s scared. Khan says he offered Brook a deal that will give him five times the biggest payday that he’ll ever get, and that apparently isn’t good enough for him.

Garcia won the WBC title last Saturday night in beating the ring worn Robert Guerrero by a close 12 round unanimous decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

It was not the kind of performance that Garcia needed to win over new fans, as he spent much of the fight holding and running from Guerrero. However, Garcia landed at least three to four good pot shots in each round in between all the holding and running he was doing to win the rounds.

“I want a massive fight in the summer – if we can’t get that kid from Bolton, I’d fight Danny Garcia, or the winner of Keith Thurman v Shawn Porter,” Brook said to skysports.com. “He (Khan) has no respect for me – he never has, and that’s why I want to punch him in the face. Everyone in the world wants to see us two fight. It would kill him to lose to me – I’d put him on his a***.

There’s definitely a possibility that Brook can get Danny Garcia or the winner of the Thurman-Porter winner to face him in the summer if there’s enough money involved in the fights. Thurman would have no qualms at taking a fight against Brook, because he’s not someone that can be beaten by holding all night long. Brook would need to come up with a new game plan if he wanted to defeat a talent like Thurman. In other words, holding probably wouldn’t do the trick in a fight like that.

“The guy doesn’t want to fight me,” Khan said to Fighthype about Brook. “I said to Eddie [Hearn] ‘do you want the fight?’ I’m telling you the truth. I want the fight, but they don’t want to give me the fight. They don’t want to fight Amir Khan, and they’re afraid to fight Amir Khan. I think that’s what it is. If it’s not Garcia, then it’s someone [he’ll be fighting next]. I want to keep busy and there’s a few options I’ve got. If it’s not Garcia and if it’s not Kell Brook, then we’ll look at other options. I want to fight all of them. It’s so unbelievable that Brook’s team is afraid of me. They don’t want to fight me. I’m ready. If you want to do it at Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 people, I am ready. Let’s do it. Let’s give the fans what they want, but it seems to me they don’t want it. I told Eddie that Kell is going to get five times what he’s been getting paid. I’ll pay him five times as much. So why would he waste that and fight somebody else? He’s obviously fighting Bizier, but who is Bizier? They don’t want to fight me. They’re making me look like the bad one by saying ‘Amir is afraid. He don’t want to fight; he’s overpricing himself.’ 90,000 people on pay-per-view in the UK. I’ll make a lot of money. I’m giving him the best deal ever. Let’s see, man,” Khan said.

Five times as much as he usually makes sounds like a great deal for the 29-year-old Brook. I don’t know why he doesn’t take the deal with both hands and be happy he’s getting it. Yeah, Khan will obviously be getting the lion’s share of the cash for the Khan-Brook fight, but that goes with the territory. If Brook beats Khan, then he could reverse that in a rematch. Even if they don’t face each other a second time, Brook will be more popular for having fought Khan. I think it’s worth it for Brook to take the smaller money now in order to have the chance to try and beat Khan. If Brook is as good as his promoter Eddie Hearn thinks he is, then he should agree to the deal Khan is offering him, and then look to get a better deal the second time around if he beats him.
