De Carolis TKOs Feigenbutz in 11th!

feigenbutz333By Scott Gilfoid: Well, just as I suspected would happen; #14 WBA fringe contender Giovanni De Carolis (24-6, 12 KOs) stopped the incredibly green 20-year-old interim WBA super middleweight champion Vincent Feigenbutz (21-2, 19 KOs) in a 11th round TKO on Saturday night in their clash at the Baden Arena in Offenburg, Germany.

De Carolis, 31, staggered Feigenbutz in the 11th round, and then unloaded on him until referee Gustavo Padilla stepped in and halted the fight at 0:32 of the round.

The first half of the fight was controlled by De Carolis, who was able to use his superior size to blast away at a frightened looking Feigenbutz with right hands. Feigenbutz looked both afraid and totally clueless. He just wouldn’t throw any punches and had a confused look on his face like he didn’t know how to solve De Carolis’ simple fighting style.

Feigenbutz came alive in the middleweight of the fight, and appeared to edge rounds 7 through 9 with his hard power shots. However, De Carolis retook control over the fight in the 10th and was having his way with the one again timid-looking Feigenbutz until halting him in the 11th.

After the fight, Feigenbutz was talking about wanting a third fight against De Carolis so that he can avenge the loss. De Carolis said he’d fight him again. Feigenbutz needs to think twice about fighting De Carolis again until he’s older. At 20, Feigenbutz is just too young and timid to be fighting guys as old as the 31-year-old De Carolis.

Perhaps when Feigenbutz gets a little older, he’ll be able to beat limited fighters like De Carolis, but clearly right now he’s not at the level to beat bottom dwellers like this. The thing is De Carolis would likely get his backside handed to him if he were to fight WBA super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov. That just shows you have out of his league Feigenbutz is in fighting in the top 15. He clearly doesn’t belong at the top 15. Feigenbutz’s promoters at Sauerland Events needs to back him WAY off and feed him 3rd tier fodder for the next five or six years until he improves enough to beat the bottom guys like De Carolis.

All in all, this was a terrible fight to watch. Neither of these guys belong at the upper echelon of the super middleweight division. I can only imagine what talents like the Dirrell brothers and Andre Ward would have done to De Carolis and Feigenbutz if they had been in the ring with them.

Feigenbutz kind of reminds me of a poor version of Arthur Abraham and Marco Huck. He’s got really good punching power, but he waits around forever before throwing his punches. That’s how Abraham and Huck fight, and it’s just awful to look at. If I was Feigenbutz’s promoter, I wouldn’t have let him anywhere near the ring tonight, because I would have seen how he looked in his training and I would have known that he doesn’t belong at this level. I mean, if Feigenbutz can’t even handle a limited fighter like the bottom feeder De Carolis, then no way should this guy get anywhere near the ring against a 1st tier fighter for at least 5 to 7 years. He has too much to learn and he just looks like a clumsy, timid novice at this point.

Feigenbutz needs a good trainer that can teach him to let his hands go. It doesn’t look like his current trainer is doing much to improve him, as he looked almost as bad tonight as he did last October in his first fight against De Carolis. That tells me that Feigenbutz needs to travel to the United States and look up trainer Abel Sanchez and have him take over as his trainer to slowly develop him for the next five to seven years before he even considers fighting anyone good. By the way, I don’t rate De Carolis as a good fighter.

In other fights on the card, undefeated cruiserweight contender Noel Gevor (20-0, 10 KOs) stayed unbeaten with an uninspired 10 round unanimous decision win over 39-year-old Valery Brudov (42-7, 28 KOs). Gevor had Brudov hurt in the 8th but he failed to go after him to finish him off.
