Wilder wants Fury-Klitschko winner

wilderBy Scott Gilfoid: After WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) takes care of business against Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs) next month in their fight on January 16th, Wilder says he wants to fight the winner of the rematch between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury.

Wilder doesn’t care which of the two he faces; although he does feel that he won’t get much credit if he beats the 39-year-old Klitschko due to his advanced age. Wilder thinks his critics wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if he beat the 27-year-old Fury, because he’s three years younger than him, and that would take away any argument that they would have about Wilder beating a guy too old.

“Win, lose or draw, we just need a date and a time,” Wilder said to Fighthub about wanting to fight the winner of the Fury-Klitschko fight. “I heard Klitschko put it out there that he wants to fight me for my WBC belt. That’s on the table too. I’ll be looking forward to that as well. If I beat Tyson, what would they say? He’s the younger guy. Even if I stopped Klitschko in one round, I’m one of these guys that wouldn’t get full credit.”

I think there’s a good chance that Deontay could get the winner of the Fury-Klitschko fight, because these guys need a talented opponent with a big name, and Wilder is perfect for them. You can’t say that the winner of the Fury vs. Klitschko fight should go after the likes of Anthony Joshua because he’s an unknown fighter in the U.S in terms of the casual boxing fans. You can’t pick out David Haye because he’s been out of the loop for too long and he still needs to prove that he can make it through training camps without coming up lame with one kind of injury or another. Fury already said he won’t bother giving Haye a fight because of the bad experience he had trying to fight him in the past.

Haye suffered a couple of injuries that forced the postponement and eventually the cancellation of a fight between them. Wilder is perfect for the winner of the Fury vs. Klitschko fight because ehe has a world title and he’s interested in fighting a unification fight. The winner of the Vyacheslav Glazkov vs. Charles Martin would be less desirable for an opponent to face the winner of the Klitschko vs. Fury fight because Martin and Glazkov are not big names.

You would have to favor the talented 6’7” Wilder against both Klitschko and Fury, because he’s so much faster than those two fighters, and he’s able to pull the trigger on his shots. Klitschko used to be a good puncher when he was younger, but he can’t seem to let his hands go any longer other than to throw jabs. Heck, Wladimir had problems even throwing jabs last November in his loss to Fury. Wladimir acted like the effort to throw a jab tired him out, so he didn’t bother much of the time.
