Fury-Klitschko rematch will happen without voluntary defense for Tyson

fury8233By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) won’t be taking a voluntary defense before his rematch against Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) in early 2016. It’s going to be a straight rematch in other words, and it could take place at the Giant 80,000 seat Wembley Stadium in London, England.

That’s where Fury’s trainer Peter Fury wants the fight to take place, and it’s doubtful that Wladimir will be able to stop the fight from taking place over there now that he’s just the challenger rather than the champion.

Fury and his team are happy about fighting the 39-year-old Klitschko a second time. Obviously the money will be good for Fury, and it’s not nearly as dangerous a fight as it would be if Fury had to face someone still in their prime and fighting at a high level.

It’s not that Wladimir doesn’t have superb punching power. He can still punch at his ripe age, but he doesn’t appear capable of letting his hands go any longer. We’d now seen Wladimir incapable of throwing punches to any extent in his last two fights against Fury and Bryant Jennings, and that suggests that he’s over-the-hill and a nice soft target for the light hitting Fury.

Goodness knows what it would be like for Fury if he were to have to face a still in his prime Klitschko. It would probably be a fight that would last all of 1 round with Wladimir wiping the deck with Fury in lightning fashion. I mean, Fury and his team are great talkers, but the talent just isn’t there in my view, and neither is the punching power.

“We’re looking at possibly getting it in Wembley Stadium next year,” Peter Fury said via skysports.com. “We are looking, me and [promoter] Mick Hennessy, to put the fight on in the UK, if we can. We’re very excited, and very pleased that Wladimir Klitschko is taking the rematch.”

Hopefully, Wladimir doesn’t raise too much of a fuss about the venue for the fight, because they just need to get it over with so that a champion can move on from this horrible match-up and fight someone that is actually good. Fury looked about as bad as Wladimir last Saturday. They both were horrible beyond belief.

To say it was the worst heavyweight championship fight I’ve ever seen before is putting it lightly. It just so horrible that I was tempted to walk out and give up on the awful match. Like I said; it wasn’t just Wladimir. Gosh, Fury was just awful to look at with his running, missing with his punches, and slapping.

I’m still kind of shocked that such a dreadful heavyweight as Fury is holding three of the four heavyweight titles. It’s come down to this. The only way something like this could ever happen was Wladimir getting old, and fighting Fury at the right time instead of facing a quality heavyweight. It was the perfect storm. Wladimir met up with a tall, weak heavyweight with an incredibly padded record. Wladimir lost just by not throwing any punches.

It wasn’t because Fury was throwing anything or landing anything. Wladimir simply lost because he fought a stupid, stupid fight. If he had the sense enough to listen to what his trainer Johnathon Banks and brother Vitali Klitschko were telling him in between rounds, then he would have won the going away. But for some reason, Wladimir tuned them out and just stared in front of him like he was in a trance in between rounds. For a guy with a Ph.D., Wladimir fought like some who didn’t even get through high school.

“There’s no voluntary, it’s a straight rematch with Wladimir Klitschko,” Fury added.
It’s all good. Wladimir gets his rematch another payday, and Fury gets what could be a safe fight for him if Wladimir fails to pull the trigger on his shots once again. The fans will likely get another terrible fight to watch, and they’ll probably come away the experience shaking their heads, wondering how these two guys are fighting for world titles.

“This is my pre-Christmas gift to Tyson Fury and all boxing fans around the world. I will be making use of my contractual option for a rematch against Fury. So the fight of 2016 is in the making,” Wladimir said in a statement.

For a fighter who just lost all of his titles in an embarrassing defeat, Wladimir looked and sounded cocky, like he was confident that he’s going to beat Fury in the rematch. I don’t know that Wladimir is capable of beating Fury. The way Wladimir looked in his last two fights, I question whether he can beat anyone now. I think he’s literally it overnight.

Banks can tell Wladimir to throw punches until he’s blew in the face, but my guess is we’re going to see him fight the same dumb fight as last time. The thing is I believe that Wladimir wants to throw a lot of punches, but his aging 39-year-old body won’t let him.
