Fury talking retirement if he loses to Klitschko

fury100By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) plans on doing a lot of sulking if things don’t work out for him tonight in his big fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs).

Fury is back on the old retirement theme he’d been blabbering about several weeks ago. He’s saying if he loses to Klitschko tonight, then might wind up retiring from boxing and just putting his feet up and doing nothing. Whether Fury will have enough money from the Klitschko fight tonight for him to just hang out on the couch with his feet up for the remainder of his life is the big question.

I guess if Fury isn’t going to be wasting money purchasing Lamborghini automobiles every year, he might be able to live out the remainder of his life without working another day. I’m not sure if that’s a life well spent, but to each his own.

“If I lose on Saturday, I’m a fraud,” Fury said to skysports.com. “If I don’t beat him then I’m obviously no good so I’ll think about doing nothing and just put my feet up.”

I don’t know Fury would retire if he loses. I mean, it’s not as if he’s done a heck of a lot in boxing thus far. I could sort of understand Fury being all broken up about losing to Klitschko if he’d been taking on and beating the talented heavyweights in the division like Deontay Wilder, Alexander Povetkin, Bryant Jennings, and Dillian Whyte. But those aren’t the type of guys that Fury has been padding his record with since he turned pro.

Fury has been beating weak heavyweights like Dereck Chisora, Christian Hammer, Joey Abell, Vinny Maddalone, Martin Rogan, Nicolai Firtha, Steve Cunningham, Kevin Johnson, Neven Pajkic and Marcelo Luiz Nascimento. Fury has been fighting pretty much the same guys that Anthony Joshua has been fighting recently, and he only turned pro two years ago.

With the gawd awful opposition that Fury has been fighting, he shouldn’t be all traumatized if he gets whipped by Klitschko tonight. After all, Fury still hasn’t cut his teeth on his first quality opponent as of yet. No, I don’t consider the short and round Chisora as a quality heavyweight. I’ve always seen Chisora as rock bottom No.15 fringe contender/2nd tier type of heavyweight.

The fact that Fury beat Chisora means zero in my book. Fury’s fight tonight will be a MONSTROUS step up in class for Fury, and it’s the type of step up in class that no one would be ready for. That’s why you don’t feed heavyweights like Fury only fodder, because when they do get title shots like the one he’ll be getting tonight, they tend to fall apart almost immediately. Fury is going to be going out into hurricane winds tonight when he gets inside the ring with Klitschko and he’s not going to know what to do in there.

“I won’t be the champion I think I am. It would mean I’m no good. Simple. If I can’t beat Wlad, it means I’m no good. And I’ll be the first person to say that,” Fury said. “I’d think about retiring, for sure. Because make no mistake, there’s nobody out there other than Wlad that’s any good. I think Wlad could beat the rest of them out there.”

I don’t know why Fury would retire if he loses to Klitschko tonight. A loss for Fury will finally show himself what level he’s at. Fury is totally untested at this point. I don’t know what kind of illusion or self-deception Fury has about his talent, but I think he’s going to get a huge burst of reality when he gets inside the ring with Klitschko.

Fury has fought so much terrible fodder opposition during his career that it seems to have gone to his head, making him think he’s better than he really is. Instead of Fury having the sense enough to look at the horrible opposition that he’s faced and know that he’s never fought anyone good that could show him his real talent, Fury seems to think he’s the real deal based off wins over fodder like Chisora, Rogan, Abell, Maddalone, Hammer, Cunningham, Johnson, Firtha, and Pajkic. That’s just so, so sad that Fury doesn’t even realize that’s not even fought anyone good yet. If it was me, I would have known that I had been fighting 2nd tier opposition my entire career, so I wouldn’t be bummed out I would get knocked out by Wladimir. I would realize that I had absolutely no preparation for the fight.
