Who dares to fight Golovkin today?

1-vlcsnap-2015-05-17-05h03m54s131By Yannis Mihanos: Last Saturday night I watched for the first time Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in his 6th round knockout victory over Willie Monroe Jr. (19-2, 6 KOs) at the Forum in Inglewood, California, and I think I got a good taste of what he is about:
“Fist Power.”

In front of him was a not so easy opponent Willie Monroe Jr. with a style (moving target) not so easy to hit and handle.

I can’t say that Monroe was moving like Andre Ward or Floyd Mayweather Jr., because he was a slow mover with some nice swift movements but overall a knockout waiting to happen.

And it did happen not once but three times. I’m not so sure if the second knockout was a clear one. Golovkin often forced him to go to the ropes.

Monroe caught often Golovkin with nice combinations and you could say by the end of the fight that they had an effect upon Golovkin’s face.

Still, not enough to take down GGG while at the same time GGG could use at his best his punch power.

I think right from the start, from the first knockdown in the 2nd round, Monroe felt that devastating power of Golovkin.

It’s the power that so far other top fighters have preferred to avoid and I think wisely they have done so far.

Monroe put up a brave display and gave at times a competitive show and a good return of the money for the fans who had packed The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin has devastating power, and he proved it last Saturday night.

A good question now will be who from the 3 top guys (Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Andre Ward) will be brave enough to face GGG?

I think it will take a lot of thought, money and time.
