froch95By jochef: WBC/IBF Super Middleweight world champion Carl Froch has vacated his IBF strap to clear the way for #1 IBF contender James Degale to fight for the title possibly at the 02 Arena in London on April 25th.

#2 WBC super middleweight contender Andre Direll will be in the opposing corner in what looks like a 50/50 fight and a great headliner on a card which is also said to feature Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua against American journeyman “Kingpin” Kevin Johnson in a re-scheduled clash.

Froch said via Skysports.com “It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks with terms agreed for the Chavez fight only for me to be unable to proceed in camp due to injury.”

“James is a great young fighter and I hope he can go out and win that title and who knows, we may even meet later in the year.”

I don’t see Froch facing Degale later in the year. I’m not sure we will see him face anyone for that matter, and why should he fight again? The man will go down as a legend in British boxing and has made enough money in his glittering career.

Froch’s fighting style is one that makes him incredibly entertaining but the fact that his iron chin is his best line of defence makes me worry about his health and if his desire to train like he used too has gone then why take that risk!

Also with George Groves likely to face unbeaten World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell sometime this year for another version of a world title and with the emergence of Callum Smith, Billy joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr all at similar weights, I think 2015 could give us some very memorable nights for British Boxing.
