Does Chris Jr need a new trainer? Eubank on it!

saunders6555By jochef: Last Saturday night at the Excel arena, London, UK, we saw Chris Eubank Jr (18-1-13 KO’s) go head to head with Billy Joe Saunders (21-0-11 Ko’s) for the British, commonwealth and European middleweight titles and possibly the chance to be the next in line for the WBO Word title which will be contested by Matt Korobov and Andy Lee.

Whether or not Eubank Jr deserved the shot is debatable, but one thing that’s not debatable is the fact that the fight was one that had both casual and hardcore fans both excited and divided in opinion, I felt before the fight that Saunders would have to much for Eubank Jr with his superior footwork and work rate and also his experience at going the 12 round distance, but actually what probably won him the fight in the end was the good instructions he was receiving from his corner and the lack of instruction Eubank Jr was receiving from his.

I felt Eubank Jr needed to be instructed much earlier on to up his work rate, and he gave away far to many rounds in the early stages and then became desperate for the knock out, he actually looked much better towards the end of the fight but it wasn’t his father who seemed to motivate him it, was the other guys in his corner screaming at him to go and knock Saunders head off.

I feel that Eubank Sr is unfortunately holding his son back, you can see he is trying to re live some of his old glory years through his son, and turn him into the same pantomime villain that he was all those years ago, I mean all the posing and arrogance is fine if you’ve achieved something in the sport like maybe Floyd Mayweather Jr but all Chris Jr has done is knock out 18 nobody’s and then fall short when stepping up in class.

He really needs to consider drastically changing his team and he needs someone who he will respect and listen to in his corner, I was amazed to hear when Eubank Jr said he does it all his own way and doesn’t listen to anyone, I mean Ronnie Davies, who was in his corner alongside Eubank Sr is a knowledgeable and experienced guy but seems to be given very little respect by Eubank.

Iv seen clips of Chris Jr on the pads with Mayweather Sr and actually I could see that partnership working, I think he would listen and respect what Mayweather could teach him, he has so much natural talent that I can see with the correct team around him the possibility of reaching the top, I don’t think he will ever mix it with the Golovkins and the Alvarez’s of this world but I think maybe the tier below, and theirs also the possibility of a move up in weight with some mouth watering domestic clashes with the likes of Degale and Groves, but he now needs to rebuild, take stock and consider his next move and I think relocating to Vegas and the Mayweather gym would be a great change up for him if he wants more big fights like his last one!
