trout888By Allan Fox: #6 WBA, #10 WBC, #12 IBF former junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (27-2, 14 KOs) will be fighting this Thursday night, December 11th in a scheduled 10 round bout against Luis Grajeda (18-3-2, 14 KOs) on ESPN2 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino, in Temecula, California, USA.

Trout, 29, is being slowly brought back after losing back to back fights to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara in 2013. Trout was matched against 37-year-old fringe contender Daniel Dawson in his last fight in August of 2014, and Trout had to struggle to defeat him by a 10 round decision.

Surprisingly or not so surprisingly, Dawson knocked Trout down in the 3rd round and was able to hurt him on one other occasion in the fight. It wasn’t a positive sight to see Trout getting knocked down by a fighter in Dawson’s class, because it suggested that there’s a chin problem for Trout that will likely haunt him in the future when/if he gets matched up against better opposition.

In facing Grajeda, Trout is being stepped down in competition against a guy that he should be able to take care of without any problems. Grajeda, 27, has lost two out of his last four fights against Pablo Munguia and Willie Nelson.

Grajeda has a little bit of power, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Trout hits the canvas at some point in this fight if he forgets his defense like he did in the Dawson fight. But this should be a fight that Trout wins with flying colors as long as he doesn’t get clipped by one of Grajeda’s big shots. Grajeda obviously will be looking to take Trout’s head off with every shot he throws because he’s got to know that he’s vulnerable to big punches.

Also on the card is former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver facing heavyweight Jonathon Banks, light heavyweight Edwin Rodriguez battling Derrick Findley, heavyweight Dominic Breazeale facing Epifanio Mendoza, and former junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora taking on Dashon Johnson.
