By Dan Ambrose: Former light heayweight world title challenge Andrezej Fonfara (25-3, 15 KOs will be facing Doudou Ngumbu (33-5, 12 KOs) in a 10 round fight on November 1st at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

The fight will be televised by Showtime. Also on the card is super featherweight Javier Fortuna (25-0-1, 18 KOs) facing Abner Cotto (18-2, 8 KOs) in a 10 round bout.

Bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda (30-0, 19 KOs) will be defending his title strap against challenger Alejandro Hernandez (28-10-2, 15 KOs).

Fonfara won over a lot of fans by going the distance in losing a 12 round unanimous decision to the seemingly invincible WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson last May in fight in which Fonfara hit the canvas twice. Stevenson dropped Fonfara once in the 1st and another time in the 5th.

Surprisingly, Fonfara was able to take the punishment that Stevenson dished out and eventually he was able to come back and score a knockdown in the 9th round over a tired Stevenson. I wish I could say the fight ended on a happy note for Fonfara, but I can’t.

Stevenson got his second wind after the 9th round, and went on to dominate the 10th, 11th and 12th rounds much like he’d done in the early part of the fight. Fonfara still ended up winning a lot of new fans just by standing up to Stevenson and eating a lot of his big punches.

Obviously, it’s not something Fonfara needs to make a career out of doing because he doesn’t need to be taking a ton of punishment in every fight like he did against Stevenson.

Fonfara’s management were hoping to get former world title challenger Roberto Feliciano Bolonti to face Fonfara, but Bolonti opted to take a fight against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute on December 6th, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

In selecting the 32-year-old Ngumbu, Fonfara will be facing a guy with very little experience against recognizable names. Ngumbu has lost to Igor Mikhalkin, Nadjib Mohammedi, Pawel Glazewski and Mehdi Kharbeche.
