Froch warns Groves to stay away from Anthony Dirrell

groves8By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch mentioned WBC champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs) as a potential next opponent in early 2015 for his next fight. Froch was at ringside for George Groves’ win over EBU super middleweight champion Christopher Rebrasse (22-3-3, 6 KOs) tonight to become the mandatory challenger to WBC super middleweight champ Anthony Dirrell at the Wembley Arena in London, England.

Froch didn’t like what he saw from Groves in the fight despite him beating Rebrasse. As I mentioned earlier, Froch didn’t like the way Groves was wobbled a couple of times by Rebrasse and he feels that Dirrell, with his power, would give Groves major problems. Froch saw how Rebrasse was able to easily nail a tired looking Groves with head shot in the 2nd half of the fight. Froch’s conclusion was that if a light hitting Rebrasse was able to trouble Groves, then a powerful puncher with blazing hand speed like Dirrell would KO him down the stretch.

Froch is hoping that Groves will wait until a more beatable champion emerges that Groves matches up better because he sees Dirrell is too good. Froch also said that WBO champion Arthur Abraham would likely be too much for Groves due to his power.

“I think he’s going to really struggle to beat Anthony Dirrell,” Froch said about Groves. “I just think he’s just too much for him, especially down the straight.”

With the way that the light hitting Rebrasse was able to bounce his shots off of Groves’ grill all night long, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Dirrell were to knock Groves out by as early as the 3rd round.

“Third fight with me? You know if it was 1-1, in two close fights, then you have the decider,” Froch said to Sky Sports tonight. I’m going to fight the decider with anyone, it’s got to be Kessler. Whoever I fight, it’s going to be a big fight. I mentioned Kessler, there is Anthony Dirrell, James DeGale is mandatory for the IBF title, so these are all names potentially.”
