By Jim Dower: Former IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor was reportedly released from jail in Little Rock, Arkansas after posting a $25,000 bond. Taylor was arrested last night for allegedly shooting his cousin.

Taylor, 36, was given permission by the judge to travel to Florida to train for his upcoming October 8th title shot against IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman. Taylor was charged with two felonies, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. He charged with first degree domestic battery, as well as aggravated assault.

Taylor’s cousin was shot multiple time. His current condition is serious.

At this time it’s unclear what caused the shooting. That part is still being investigated by the police.

There’s no word whether ESPN will still be televising the Taylor-Soliman fight. The fight is scheduled to take place on October 8th at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. This fight is Taylor’s big chance to capture a world title and set himself up for bigger fights against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

The money that Taylor could make for fights against those guys is fairly significant, especially if he could beat at least one of them. A win over Cotto would give Taylor a good payday a chance for a rematch against him. The same with Canelo. Those guys bring big bucks for a fight against Taylor. Taylor has already got a well-known name in the U.S, and all he needs is a big win over a relevant fighter and that could lead to some really nice paydays for him. If Taylor’s legal issues don’t derail his career, he’s in the position to potentially make big things happen with his career at age 36.

Taylor looked especially good last December in stopping Juan Carlos Candelo in the 7th round. Taylor’s hand speed and power both looked nearly as good as when he was fighting almost a decade again against the likes of Bernard Hopkins.
