dirrell322By Scott Gilfoid: 8 WBC super middleweight talent Andre Dirrell (22-1, 15 KOs) is being talked about fighting on the undercard of the October 8th card headlined by IBF middleweight champion Sam Soliman vs. Jermain Taylor in Biloxi, Mississippi, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

The card will be televised by ESPN, so boxing fans will get a chance to see Dirrell fight without needing to subscribe to one of the expensive premium cable channels.

Dirrell’s opponent is yet to be determined, but we are talking the fight just being a month away from now so you can’t expect a whole lot. A good 2nd tier fighter would be perfect for Dirrell to continue to get the cobwebs off of his game after he was out of action for a year and half.

Dirrell last fought last month in destroying a very tough Vladine Biosse by a 5th round knockout last month on August 1st in a fight televised by ESPN2. After wiping Biosse out in impressive fashion, Dirrell called out IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch for a fight, but Dirrell hasn’t heard any response from the 37-year-old fighter.

What Dirrell did do was put Froch on notice that he’s coming after his two belts and that if he sticks around long enough, he’s going to be on his doorstep looking to get that fight. It’s only a matter of time before Dirrell gets ranked high enough to be the mandatory for Froch and for the other champions in the division. He’s just got to keep putting the wins together one after another and he’ll be there.

Things are complicated with Dirrell being ranked #8 by the WBC, because there’s no way he’s going to fight his brother Anthony Dirrlel, who holds down the WBC super middleweight title. Andre is in the same situation Wladimir Klitschko was in when his brother Vitali Klitschko held down the WBC heavyweight strap.

Wladimir couldn’t go after the title because Vitali had the belt. Well, it’s like that with Andre. He just needs to get ranked by the other sanctioning bodies, because I can’t see guys like Carl Froch or WBO champion Arthur Abraham giving Dirrell a world title shot unless they absolutely had to due to him being their mandatory challenger. I mean, they’re probably not going to just voluntarily give Dirrell a title shot out of the blue, because he’s too good and too dangerous to fight.
