frampton34By Gavin” Neds” O’Connor: September the 6th is the date for the eagerly awaited rematch between Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (18-0, 13 KOs) and Kiko “La Sensacion” Martinez (31-4, 23 KOs) at the Titanic Quarter, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton will challenge the tough Spaniard Martinez for his International Boxing Federation super bantamweight world title in his hometown of Belfast the bout will be contested in the Titanic Quarter in a 16,000 seat capacity arena temporarily constructed for the bout situated next to the launch site of the SS Titanic in 1912.

Frampton will be looking to repeat his previous performance against the hard hitting Martinez the first meeting between the two fighters was also in Belfast in February last year for the EBU super bantamweight title with Frampton inflicting a 9th round knockout victory, which was the first knockout defeat in Martinez’s 35 bout career.

Martinez will be looking to average that defeat and retain his world title on his second defense of his IBF title. Frampton, who fights under Cyclone Promotions, is supremely confident, saying “He (Martinez) has been saying a lot on Twitter, but let’s see if he is like that when he comes over, because he has been tamed.”

Martinez is an improved fighter since the last meeting against Frampton with a 6th round defeat of Jonathan Romero to secure the IBF title and a defense and 9th round knockout against Jeffery Mathebula.

Both Frampton and Martinez are heavy handed with knockout power with many inside the boxing world believing this bout will not go the distance and a KO maybe on the cards.

Should the 27 year-old Frampton defeat Martinez again and win the title, the prospect of a future bout against WBA champ Scott Quigg, WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz or the highly talented WBA Super World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux are a real possibility.

Will it be full steam ahead for the Belfast natives title ambitions or will he encounter a Spanish iceberg let’s hope it’s plane sailing . The fight will be live on Boxnation.
