Anthony Joshua: Can he become a heavyweight world champion by 2015?

joshua67By Cameron Gillon: Anthony Joshua is a young unbeaten British heavyweight boxer who is promoted by Eddie Hearn and his promotion base Matchroom Sport, he turned pro in July 2013 and so has had 7 fights and in which he won all of them by way of knockout and inside 2 rounds. He won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic games in London, England and since then many have had the opinion of him taking over the new era in the heavyweight division once Wladimir Klitchsko retires.

It is unlikely that Joshua will have enough fights and experience to ever get a fight against either of the Klitchsko brothers as Vitali has pretty much retired and Wlad hasn’t got many left you would feel unless he keeps winning and wants to make more money and unify all belts by going after the WBC title.

Anthony Joshua is now at a stage where he has to move up in level of the opposition hes currently facing, so far he has beaten Emanuele Leo, Paul Butlin, Hrvoje Kisicek, Dorian Darch, Hector Avila, Matt Legg and Matt Skelton. Skelton was in a way a step up from the other six opponents he has faced due to the experience Skelton has had in being in a world title before. Anthony even said Skelton was his toughest fight  as a professional and hopes to move up at the right time rather than being rushed into things for it go horribly wrong. Many UK fans have a lot of hope and belief in the potential of Anthony Joshua and for him to have all this great hype and for then something to go wrong, his career would come crashing down. He is a very humble fighter, for anyone who watches him in interviews will know he is very focused consistently and never likes to talk about himself and will always put his opponents in a good way in the public eye.

Now his next fight is definitely going to be a big test to see how good he really is, his opponent is Yaroslav Zavorotnyi who recently went 10 rounds with another British fighter David Price so you could imagine if Joshua could get Yaroslav out of there early like all his other opponents its going to be a big step up in showing what he is really about and his ability, he needs the rounds as none of his fights have gone past the 2nd round as of yet and i believe this will be his first fight where it will but i honestly believe Anthony Joshua will get him out of there by the 4th round. He then has another fight against Michael Sprott for the 11th October at the 02 arena, For hardcore boxing fans they will know who Michael Sprott is as he is another experiences British fighter who could cause Joshua some problems, Joshua is going to need to be tested for him to improve on his overall ability and the next two fights could really give him some new things to pick up and learn from.

Eddie Hearn recently added Joshua onto the September 13th card which means he is going to have 3 fights in the space of a month and if he comes through all of them fights it will leave him at a record of 10-0 which was the plan at the start of the year for him. Joshua said he wants as many fights as he can this year so he can get experience quickly but is in no rush to go after belts, Hearn said he hopes to get Joshua a British title fight in 2015 and hopefully a world title fight in 2016.
