Canelo: The road To Glory

Then Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) stepped up and made the announcement that got me, once again, excited about boxing.

When Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs) erupted on Canelo during his post-fight press conference and challenged him to a fight, Canelo replied that this was not the way to get a fight and that got everybody saying that he was afraid to fight Lara.

In the days following that incident, the press and fans alike were convinced that Canelo would never take such a dangerous fight and that he would rather wait for Cotto.

It is a fact that Lara is a dangerous and avoided fighter, much like Golovkin, however, Canelo, despite his team and promoter’s objections decided to take the fight out of pride and because he has the “cojones” to do it.

From a business stand point, this a very risky fight for Canelo in terms of money whereas if he were to lo0se to Lara in a bad fashion, it would directly affect his big ppv fight against Cotto and thus, his income not only for that particular fight but a few more down the road.

Putting all of that to the side and going for Lara proves that Canelo has warrior blood in his veins and he should be commanded for it. In an era where elite fighters are very careful not to pick the wrong fight and risk their market value, Canelo is a breath of fresh air.

There is no guarantee whatsoever that Canelo can or will win the fight. In fact most analysts are picking Lara to raise his hands at the end of the day and with good reasons, Lara being a smart and slick fighter from the great Cuban school.

But Canelo does not care about none of that, he’s willing to go out there and put it all on the line and come out victorious relying on his self confidence and his will. No other fighter in his position has stteped up as big as Canelo did.

Should Canelo  win in a convincing fashion a fight that even Freddie Roach was surprised he took, we should all come back here and show our respect for the great Mexican warrior for he would have shown the world how to take the road to glory.

Canelo, tu lo tienes dentro de ti y lo vas a mostrar…
