Mayweather in a tough situation

floyd688By Mohamed Horomtallah: I feel a great deal of sympathy for Floyd Mayweather. I really do. His current situation reminds me of that of a fugitive trapped inside a house with no way of escaping.

Manny Pacquiao is knocking on the door, Amir Khan is trying force the window and Canelo Alvarez is blocking the escape route. This is a stressful situation for Mayweather and I believe his best move is to go into protective custody and disappear through the witness protection program.

Khan numbers are impressive despite competing card

khan8By Phil Smith: The numbers are in and it’s all good news for Amir Khan. His showdown with Devon Alexander averaged  762k viewers on Showtime with a peak at 887k. Across town, at the Cosmopolitan, the Bradley did averaged 966k with a peak at 1M viewers. How is that good news for Khan?

HBO has several millions subscribers more than Showtime and yet, the difference between the two cards in terms of viewers was 125k. That means that a higher percentage of Showtime subscribers were interested in watching Khan as opposed to a lower percentage of HBO subscribers tuning in for the Bradley fight. If it was reversed, Khan would have probably averaged 1.5M on HBO.

Amir Khan should take example of Sadam Ali

khan1By Mohamed Horomtallah: Amir Khan is at a crossroads. His upcoming fight against Devon Alexander is a must win not only to be in the mix for a potential Floyd Mayweather Jr fight but also and perhaps mostly to prove that he could be an elite fighter at 147 pounds.

Khan knows that he must win and win big against Alexander. That could give him a boost but it could also prove to be a handicap, especially if the fight doesn’t play out as he initially planned.

Sadam Ali : A Star Is Born?

By Mohamed Horomtallah – I never saw Sadam Ali fight until last night and I can’t wait for his next bout! I heard the name here and there. I saw some highlights on YouTube and when I found out he was the co-main event on the Hopkins-Kovalev card, I was curious and intrigued.

The closer the fight got, the more I wanted to find out about him. As a boxing fan, I’m always on the lookout for new blood and something about Ali got me excited. I just felt that the kid was special without having any arguments to back up that reasoning.

Is Canelo forcing Mayweather to work with Arum?

floyd432By Mohamed Horomtallah: Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) usually waits until the very last moment to announce his next opponent and certainly not a year ahead of time.

What made Mayweather feel the need to tease fans 11 months before his may 2015 fight by saying that he has a big surprise for us on that date?

Mayweather knows all too well that when he promises the fans a “big surprise” for may 2015 it can only means one thing and one thing only : a fight with Manny Pacquiao!

There isn’t any other fighter out there that can be sold to the fans as a “big surprise”! Only Manny Pacquiao fits the bill.

Canelo: The road To Glory

canelo678By Mohamed Horomtallah: I haven’t written an article in quite a while. This pause was the consequence of the lack of excitement on the boxing scene these past few months. Then Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) stepped up and made the announcement that got me, once again, excited about boxing.

When Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs) erupted on Canelo during his post-fight press conference and challenged him to a fight, Canelo replied that this was not the way to get a fight and that got everybody saying that he was afraid to fight Lara.
