dirrell453423By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight Andre Dirrell (21-1, 14 KO’s) says he expects to be back in the ring next Friday, August 1st in scheduled fight on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights from the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Wash.

According to Mlive.com, Dirrell has left his promoter 50 Cent under good terms, and he now plans on getting back in the ring and fighting regularly to get a top ranking. Dirrell is with high powered adviser Al Haymon now.

Dirrell reportedly wants a high quality opponent for his bout next Friday, so they’re looking around to try and get the best possible opponent they can on short notice.

Dirrell was set to fight the capable Renan St. Juste, but he suffered and injury and couldn’t take the fight.
Dirrell, 30, hasn’t fought since last year when he defeated Michael Gbenga by a 10 round unanimous decision in February of 2013. He looked sensational for a fighter who hadn’t fought in over a year at that time. Dirrell’s career has slowed since he left the Super Six tournament due in part to promotional issues.

In the Super Six tournament, Dirrell put on impressive performances against Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch, and you can pretty much say that he came out of the tournament with a 2-0 record, even though he was beaten by Froch in Nottingham. Dirrell out-boxed Froch for the entire 12 rounds of the fight but given a highly controversial defeat.

As of last year, Dirrell’s amazing speed was still very much intact and there was no sign of any rust or loss of skills. It was as if he had been frozen in time from how he looked and fought during the Super Six tourney.

Dirrell would like to get Froch back in the ring so that he can even the score with the British fighter before he hangs up his gloves in the ring, but it’s not likely that Froch would want to get back in the ring with the blazing fast American a second time due to how difficult it was for him the last time he fought him.

A fight between them would be a tough one to put together anyway, because Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn would likely insist that the fight be staged in the UK, and I’m not sure that Dirrell would like to put himself into a position where he finds himself on the short end of another potential controversial decision.

Dirrell vs. Froch in Las Vegas would be a great fight, because Froch has been talking about wanting to fight in Vegas recently on pay-per-view, and this would give him an opportunity to do that.
